My solution would be to use the death penalty on a much more frequent basis. Kill off hundreds of thousands of the most dangerous violent criminals. This would make room for the less violent criminals.

We in California spend millions on Illegal Aliens in prison that shouldn't be here in the first place. These parasites should be deported immediately instead of continuing to release them so thet can commit more crimes when they should be DEPORTED.Here's an example http://www.ocregister.com/news/deput...ino-reyes.html and secure the border so we don't waste even more money on repeat offenders and court interpreters.http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lano...%28L.A.+Now%29

Or better yet, get rid of a lot of unneeded laws. Legalize prostitution and weed. Deport illegal aliens who commit crimes.

Police get paid to pick up speeding soccer moms and strip search 80 year old women at airports while we have unsolved murders, gang problems, shootings, kidnappings, rapes, burglaries, arsons, child abuse, domestic violence, and terrorism occuring daily across the country. It's absurd. We have to reform our legal system first, not simply "move people around". Also, why are people like Charles Manson still alive? Is it because he's just a real stand up guy? What a waste of taxpayer money.

I think we should have the OP go and teach job skills in an overcrowded jail.

Legalize pot? Actually have real rehabilitation program for those who commit non-violent crimes? Don't send those who commit most non-violent crimes to prison, instead force them into community service and other types of programs? Implement policies to address the root causes of crime, namely poverty?

I'm not ridiculing the poster, I'm ridiculing the post, stop trying to victimize yourself. The notion of "decriminalizing crime" and the subsequent slippery slope to no such thing as "serious crime" is completely ridiculous.

The U.S. has the highest documented incarceration rate in the world and you're talking about the country sliding into lawlessness. It's absurd.

Major recessions have a way of reducing the prison population.

In 2008, due to budget cuts, 10,000 inmates were let go. The tally isn't in for 2009 yet. This year, CA is under a mandate to release 6,500 alone.

Every prisoner loves a long, deep recession! They're on their knees everyday, praying and praying and praying, that this current recession never ends.

I'm not even in prison, and I pray with them!

I totally agree. Our jails should NOT be housing illegal immigrants. Deport them back to their country. This is a no-brainer.

the country has highest incarceration bek it has the highest number of people breaking the law. certainly execution for violent offenders instead of incarceration would reduce the overall problem.
song of the jailbird, there are no rapists or murderers or muggers in jail -------only victims of a judgmental and stereotyping society. sing it.
