A free calendar given out in Publix supermarkets has outraged South Florida residents. The calendar designated Dec. 7 as “Islamic New Year” instead of commemorating the Pearl Harbor attack on that date.
The calendar also includes Venezuelan and Cuban independence days and “Haitian Flag Day,” but omits Patriot Day commemorating the 9/11 attacks, Palm Beach Post columnist Jose Lambiet disclosed.

People need to get a grip. It is a free calendar. If they don't like it they can give it away, recycle it, etc.
Patriot Day? That's a new one. I would think July 4th would be Patriot Day and what do you know it is already a holiday.

I would have been upset over the Dec 7 one though and would have given back the calendar and let headquarters know how I felt. Pearl Harbor Day is not a day I would want to see dropped.

Good to see that "customer feedback" let them know that 12/7 is more important for Pearl Harbor than some Islamic holiday.

I guess you are not from around these here parts.

In the United States, Patriot Day occurs on September 11 of each year, designated in memory of the 2,993 casualties in the September 11, 2001, attacks. Most Americans refer to the day as "Nine-Eleven (9/11)," "September 11th," or some variation thereof

There's no such holiday as "Pearl Harbor Day". I've never seen Dec. 7 recognized as such on any calendar. What a stupid thing to worry about.

And I would not care to see an Islamic holiday on my calendar.
If Publix is going to put recognized days, then please go with US observed ones first.

I've never seen Pearl Harbor Day on a calendar either. As far as Patriot Day. The Patriots Day that I'm more familiar with is in April and mostly a Massachusetts thing having to do with the American Revolution. I've rarely, if ever, heard Sept. 11th referred to as Patriot Day since the time it was first proposed. I'll have to check it if is on my calendar.

My calendar has religious and and national holidays from around the world on it. Personally, I like to be informed when Eid or Boxing Day, etc. occur, it doesn't bother me one bit.

Remember, these are the same folks that still celebrate "Lee Jackson Day" and "Confederate Memorial Day" and tried to veto MLK Day.

It's the South. They still do remember some southern historic dates.
I'd still rather than than an Islamic holiday.

BTW here in Texas we do cinco de mayo and Juneteenth on our local calendars.

There's so much frustration and hatred in our society.

1. It's a free calendar.

2. I'm looking at a calendar I paid $5.99 for at Costco and it doesn't have Pearl Harbor Day.

3. If you want it to say Pearl Harbor Day, write to printing/calendar publishers and request its significance be recognized on all calendars from now on?

4. Maybe in retrospect, someone along the way overlooked something.
- Should they be fired?
- Should they be turned into a eunuch?
- Should you set their home ablaze and threaten their family?

Seriously? Why so much anger and hostility over something so miniscule? Everyone has to have a problem with something.
