What will be interesting is what happens later in the process. She has been clear that if the government becomes too involved in the final bill, she will not support it. Many in the house want the government option and some want single payer. If those get inserted into this paper (not really a bill) she will probably not support it.
As a resident of Maine she has seen first hand the devastation wrought by liberal tampering in the health care field. Guaranteed issue? Community rating? Public option? All have been tried in Maine with the result that health insurance is now unaffordable for most people and small business. That should have told her something. Apparently not. She's too dumb to put two and two together. Now she and the Dems want to foist these failed ideas on the nation as a whole.
All you have to do is look at ANY state (Maine, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Oregon, etc.) in which those and similar health care 'reforms' have been tried to see that they're an unmitigated disaster. What makes anyone think that what's failed repeatedly at state levels will suddenly miraculously work at the national level? Why aren't people smart enough to recognize they're being lied to?
Ms. Snowe has not endorsed either Democratic
health care bill in the Senate. No Republican has.
But in an interview, she offered a surprisingly
robust endorsement of Mr. Obama’s skepticism
about expanding government too much, his willingness
to accommodate different views and his assertion
that Washington must act now after decades of failure.
I think Sen. Snowe is more liberal than conservative but she is smart to remain that way to stay in office. Maine is a very liberal state and she still is popular and her popularity increases every election. She must be doing something right..according to the voters of Maine.
And how would the votes be any different than if she won?
Well instead of having someone who votes with the Democrats 50% of the time you would have someone who votes with the Democrats almost 100% of the time. This is Maine, we are talking about. You are going to win with a conservative Republican. Want to try it?? Go right ahead. I will gladly exchange someone who votes with my side 50% of the time for someone who will almost always vote with my side.
I think maybe she voted in favor of the bill, because now the democrats will try their best to appease Snowe, which means the far-left dems will not be able to influence the bill, for fear of losing Snowe's vote. LOL.
