He should not step down. If the parents felt that Obama's speech were THAT important, they could/should have taken the day off and watched it with their kids. Or utilized one of many means to record such things and watched it later at their convenience. Or the church whom the Reverend represents could have had it recorded and played later, for example, on a Sunday after church services were concluded.
Superintendant is an elected official. He apparently did not have a good grasp of who his constituency was.
When did watching speeches by the President (whomever he is at the time) become mandatory? I have no problem with Obama making a presentation but the Superintendant made a decision. He should not lose his job because of his choice. Regarding his constituency, he must know something about them - enough to get elected.
Superintendent is NOT an elected official, but is accountable to the elected school board and, ultimately, the public.
You sure that you have a grasp?
Better than you it would seem. I do not know about Valdosta Georgia, but some school systems have elected superintendants.
I am not saying he should have resigned only that he was pretty stupid to think that was not going to be a problem considering his districts demographics. Maybe he was not smart enough to be a superintendant.
Oh here is a cite of a district where the super is elected.
You should not post if you "do not know". Georgia superintendents, again, are not elected.
I agree with you, though, they are accountable and should be held accountable to a constituency--the public.
You should not post if you have alzheimers and are prone to forgetfullnes. You wrote "Superintendents" not Georgia Superintendants. However, some Georgia Districts elect superintendents. Although I am from Georgia, I have no idea about Valdosta. Please stop while your behind.
