African Americans are a minority group of say 10-12% of this country, yet they do commit a disproportionate number of crimes based their population size. However, even though they commit a disproportionate number of crimes based on population size, whites still commit the most total overall crimes, so outside of living in any major metro area where there is a significant African American population, you'd be hard pressed to see them in the news in the majority of crimes committed.

If the news presented crimes in the manner you'd request White American crime would play 70-80% of the time and Black/Hispanic crime would be on 30% of the time. Now, that is for all crimes, it may vary if you want to get to specific crimes, but for overall crime this is how the news would actually play out. Do you really want to view that sort of television at night?

Until minorities start to make up a more significant portion of the population even though they commit a disproportionate rate of crime, they still do not commit the majority of total crimes. Now, as more immigrant of Hispanic decent come in this may change in the future and if you grouped all the minority groups together perhaps in 30 years, they'd surpass Whites in totals crimes committed.

I will also point out crime overall has been decreasing at a rapid rate

Total Crimes in 1990 were 14,000,000
Population was 248 Million at the time

Total Crime in 2007 was 11,000,000
Population was 306 Million at the time

http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/uscrime.htm

Overall total Crime has decreased significantly as the population has gotten bigger, so why do you think people think crime is worse now then it has ever been???
I did not say anything about who commits more crime. That had nothing to do with my post. I don't care where the chips fall, all the facts should be reported. Let me decide what is important and what is not. That should not be the job of the journalists or editors.

Yea, that's fine, but you do decide what is played or what is not played. Maybe not necessarily you alone, but consumers, dictate, what is shown on TV by viewership. All the news stations cater to certain demographics and certain different taste of the viewers, some pander more than others, but the journalists are always doing your bidding. They may think of an idea on their own, but if you do not like it, it will get scrapped or you'll just change the channel, so you collectively control everything, that is played on tv for the most part.

This happened two years ago and the trial is beginning. Why is it that the Duke Lacrosse rape case got wall to wall national coverage and this case was virtually ignored by the national press. In the Duke case it was white students and a black woman. In this case it was black youths and a white couple. Below is what they did to the man and then to the woman.

They were bound, blindfolded and brought to Davidson's rundown rental home in an industrial inner-city neighborhood about six miles away. According to defendants' statements, Newsom wasn't there long before he was taken away, sexually assaulted, shot in the back of the head, set on fire and left beside some railroad tracks a few blocks away.
Over the next day, Christian was repeatedly raped, bleach was sprayed in her mouth to destroy evidence and, Coleman told investigators, Davidson broke her neck. A medical examiner has testified that she suffocated after she was wrapped in plastic bags and dumped in a closed trash can.
Attacking silence is so 2004, can't you guys learn some new tricks?

Here is a good example of a report...

Clermont girl stabbed, burned -- OrlandoSentinel.com

no issue of race indicated but rather a tragedy described. Isn't this the way it should be? As soon as you place a color with it come the judgments. This way you see it for what it is. Oh this way you don't have to face personal issues of racism...

It's a sad state of affairs.

No, a description should be made fully aware.

True, but what if a full description isn't available? What if all they have to say is young black male? Is that going to help anything at all? or just **** people off?

The U.S. media is sadly still ignoring this story. The international media has updates-

Families of young couple who were raped and tortured to death are banned from wearing photo buttons of the victims in the front row of courtroom during killer's retrial
