What I have seen is people just moving from fast food and labor-based jobs to gig jobs because they pay more and are easier frankly. When many restaurants and fast food places let people go, quite a few went to Uber Eats, Uber, Door Dash, Instcart, on and on. People were delivering for the places that fired them.

Low wages and Fast food jobs have always sucked as has their pay. THe only difference is people have alternatives that pay better.

I could not justify anyone working for KFC or Mc Donalds for $8.00 an hour when you can just drop food off to people for $14-$18 an hour all while making your own schedule and not having to deal with th general public. Cars are so damn reliable now that wear and tear is not a big deal for most people especially in cities or compact suburban areas.

I think people are severely underestimating how much people hate working fast food and Wal-Mart-type jobs. How many of you would choose a fast-food job over something like Door Dash if both were viable options?

Personally, I would cut lawns or anything else than to deal with a screaming Manager and Customer arguing with me about a $1.00 sandwich. Ill show you where to put that sandwich.

That's unfortunate. I was expecting the momentum if the last few months would continue. Seems like the economic recovery is stalling a little bit.
Not even the trillions in stimulus are doing anything to stimulate the economy under Biden.

US Steel just canceled a $1.5 trillion upgrade. Even with the environmentalists trying to cancel the deal, it still looked like a done deal when Trump was president. Now with Biden as president, his green agenda were the last nail in that coffin.

US Steel ends plans for $1.5B Pennsylvania plant upgrades

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pittsburgh-based United States Steel Corp. said Friday that it is canceling a $1.5 billion project to bring a state-of-the-art improvement to its Mon Valley Works operations in western Pennsylvania, saying the world has changed in the two years since it announced its intentions.

Project permits initially stalled by the pandemic never came through, U.S. Steel has added capacity elsewhere, and now it must shift its focus to its goal of eliminating greenhouse gas emissions from its facilities by 2050, it said.

The loss of what would have been one of the largest industrial investments in Pennsylvania quickly led to recriminations by Pittsburgh-area politicians, labor unions and business organizations over why the project could never secure permits. Some worried it will diminish the future of steelmaking there.

The morons in Pennsylvania elected Biden, they got what they deserved. So many union jobs are being destroyed by Biden. But will the unions stop voting Democrat? No, because they are stupid.

Well, the Democrats think those people are chomping at the bit to dig ditches and pour concrete, because they always push those shovel ready infrastructure jobs.

Pour concrete involves many jobs that pay way better than fast food. I didn't say people won't work hard, I just say they won't do it at a low wage while being berated by an A-hole manager and a customer who all want to rant and rave over $2.00 nuggets.

That guy working concrete may get a chance to learn how to use the larger equipment moving him into $20 an hour easily. There are 0 opportunities like that in fast food, even the managers get paid low wages.

People in many fields deal with A-holes all the time, the compensation usually off-sets those frustrating moments. How do you offset bad managers, horrible customers, lack of respect for having a job because "It's a Teenager's or stepping stone Job" all while being paid $8 an hour which won't even cover rent?

Just search this forum and see how people talk about those with low-wage jobs. We talk about them as if they are NOT AMERICAN.

You didn't read much on this did you.

Last October US Steel said that they were likely not going ahead with the expansion. That the pandemic gave them time to re-evaluate and they realize that the better business decision would be to nix the expansion.

Had nothing to do with Biden.....

Biden's anti-business and green energy agenda were the last nail in the coffin, is what I said.

Unless I am mistaken, when people are no longer eligible to collect Unemployment, they are no longer listed as being unemployed -- or am I wrong about that?

I think a much better indicator of how well the U.S. is doing regarding people in poverty is tracking how many people have SNAP benefits. In 2018, 12% of household had some SNAP benefits. In January 2021, that figure that increased to 15.1%.

No, that's incorrect. The Bureau of Labor Statistics is conducting a monthly survey of 60,000 eligible households where the BLS is asking about their labor force activities.

How the Government Measures Unemployment

From the Text:

Quote:
There are about 60,000 eligible households in the sample for this survey. This translates into approximately 110,000 individuals each month, a large sample compared to public opinion surveys, which usually cover fewer than 2,000 people. The CPS sample is selected so as to be representative of the entire population of the United States. In order to select the sample, all of the counties and independent cities in the country first are grouped into approximately 2,000 geographic areas (sampling units). The Census Bureau then designs and selects a sample of about 800 of these geographic areas to represent each state and the District of Columbia. The sample is a state-based design and reflects urban and rural areas, different types of industrial and farming areas, and the major geographic divisions of each state.
