Not sure on that. If Trump wins of course you are right, but once the need to cover for Trump's fragile ego is removed there will be a lot of consideration of which action is really best for Rs.
This system had never worked well for the Republicans, although it has been positively great for the Democrats. But this cycle, the Commission has irretrievably disgraced and discredited itself.
There is no scenario under which it will be in the Republicans best interests to continue with this corrupt farce.

Agreed. The presidential debates control should be giving back to League of Women Voters.
The League of Women Voters is withdrawing sponsorship of the presidential debates...because the demands of the two campaign organizations would perpetrate a fraud on the American voter. It has become clear to us that the candidates' organizations aim to add debates to their list of campaign-trail charades devoid of substance, spontaneity and answers to tough questions. The League has no intention of becoming an accessory to the hoodwinking of the American public.
According to the LWV, they pulled out because "the campaigns presented the League with their debate agreement on September 28, two weeks before the scheduled debate. The campaigns' agreement was negotiated 'behind closed doors' ... [with] 16 pages of conditions not subject to negotiation. Most objectionable to the League...were conditions in the agreement that gave the campaigns unprecedented control over the proceedings.... [including] control the selection of questioners, the composition of the audience, hall access for the press and other issues."[24]
Only Rush Limbaugh, Alex Jones, Glenn Beck and only a handful of Fox News / Infowars reporters should moderate every single debate as everyone knows only they are credible and unbiased. Everyone other then those people and organization is Fake News and a hoax. Even the previous Fox News reporter my candidate would not listen too. He's a hoax and Fake News! All is a hoax and Fake Newz!
Also, muting microphones so it at least gives the impression of a debate and not a interrupting match and verbal free for all food fight?! No! Censorship! Fake Newz by the biased media. No one wants that and my candidate didn't agree to giving the other candidate 2 full minutes to speak! I'm taking my ball and going home!
