We libertarians are a long way from winning an election. We have to accept that we must align ourselves with the Republicans, especially Trump, as he is most closely aligned with us.
As a libertarian, if you believe in the Constitution, the autonomy of the individual, the rule of law and property right, you must support the Republican Party.
So is it their wrongheaded believe in "non-free" trade or their continuations of the drug war...or ideals of injecting one religion into government...that so attract you?
I find this interesting since I consider myself liberal (where libertarian comes from) and even joined the free state project...probably back when you were in diapers. Yet the GOP is abhorrent to me in virtually every way
For the first two paragraphs: absolutely not. Trump is very destructive to the principles of limited government, the rule of law and freedom. He is an aspiring Big Government dictator. Tariffs? Debt? He loves them.
The Democratic Party is a lethal threat to limited government, the rule of law, private property, equality and freedom. So it’s worse, but the response should be to build up the Libertarian Party, not to go along with the lesser of two evils.

They believe in the group and the collective over the individual and openly advocate for an ever larger government on both the state and federal level. If any of you has been to California, you have seen what a disaster it is. Why would you want that for the rest of our nation?

So the Libertarians now support protectionist trade policies, tariffs, heavy-handed government involvement in the economy, eminent domain over private property rights, massive increases in government debt, etc.? Libertarians now support brutal dictators like Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong-un, Recep Erdogan, Rodrigo Duterte, etc.? Libertarians are now aligned with bible thumping fundamentalists who want to turn the country into a theocracy? Damn. I guess I won't be voting Libertarian again.

I'm not naive. I'm a mid-career, white-collar professional with a graduate degree and decades of experience in politics (as a leader of my local GOP organization and volunteering numerous campaigns).
Trump's lies, his assaults on the rule of law and the press, his opposition to economic freedom (tariffs, bullying of manufacturers, etc.), his embrace of Putin and his racism (which I see as overt but others may see as nonexistent or subtle) make him totally unacceptable to me.
Libertarians are the Party of Principle. I have principles: I don't vote for people such as the one described in my prior paragraph. Period. It doesn't matter what the alternative is.
