Being calm is not a criteria.
Having said that, Kavanaugh is known for being extremely calm throughout his career.
I think he somewhat "put on an act" in order to show how damaging this was to him and his family....not saying he wasn't really extremely upset (and 100% even had a right to be) but he may have been advised that he had to turn it up and show some emotion or pushback against his detractors while on the public stage.
He really was in a no win situation....he acts the way he did and he gets the "he's not fit to serve because he's so tempermental/emotional"...yet if he acts deadpan, monotone and not upset then people will say "how can he be so calm under these circumstances...he must not be human - he's not fit to serve!"
You know who else passed a lie detector test? A man who brutally raped a 12 yearly girl and because of Hillary Clinton got off light. In fact Hillary once joked about how she would never trust a lie detector again because of it.

Yes that's how I see it, his anger was premeditated, but when he cried about his daughter praying for the woman it was legit.
