People object to the abject ugliness and degradation of society they so perfectly embody. Spider-web elbows.... Really? That's all you think of yourself?

I don't care for tattoos. 99.9% of them are really terrible artwork, the equivalent of buying a painting at a starving artist sale, except putting it on your skin. And, over time, just about all of them wind up looking like a disfiguring skin disease. What's more, it's really not a very good mark of individuality if everybody else is getting them, too.
Finally, getting a tattoo is akin to buying a leisure suit that can only be removed with a painful medical procedure. Yeah, that polyester confection with the Qiana shirt was the height of style when you pulled up to the disco in your ZRoc Camaro. But that doesn't mean you'd be caught dead in it at anything besides a costume party today. I mean, how many of you bought a garment or accessory ten years ago that you thought was great, yet still wear it every day today? Well, if you get a tattoo, that's what you've signed up for.
All that being said, if you want a tattoo, get a tattoo. It doesn't make you a morally vacuous human being. It isn't your membership card to the nearest opium den or swinger's lounge. It just means that you don't think very far ahead.
Well, tastes in art do vary and there is such a thing as freshening up a tattoo if the ink fades. Or covering it with another tattoo if your financial situation improves and you can afford a nicer tattoo.
Lots of possibilities... see? People with tattoos do think ahead.

I know I'll never regret my tattoos, because they are symbolic of my cultural heritage.
They are bigger than me.
But I'd never get a tattoo for simply artistic reasons, so its unlikely I'll get more.

And, you don't know who has a deeply symbolic tattoo that you think is there for "simply artistic reasons."
One of my (male) friends has a full sleeve tattoo that looks for the world like some sort of elaborate comic of some sort, in very vivid color.
It's actually a comical representation of this bizarre little man with a hammer, destroying a colon. As in the organ, not the punctuation mark.
My friend has Crohn's disease.
So, what may look like some crazy art to people who like to turn their noses up at tattoos has a far more personal meaning than those Confederate flags people like to get tattooed alongside the US flag with an eagle or whatever.
Because nobody I know served in the Confederacy, but I do know someone who has Crohn's disease and was directly affected by the surgery to treat it.
You never know what a tattoo means to someone unless you ask.

I know a person whose son died in an auto crash at age 16. He had his sons name tattooed on his forearm.
I could see getting a tat for some extraordinary accomplishment like climbing Mt Everest or participating in the Olympics. I could see getting one because you belonged to some elite organization like the Navy Seals, Pararescue, Green Barret, Rangers or maybe spent 20 years in EMS, Fire or law enforcement.
Even then, in my opinion the size should only be 1 or 2 inches some where that can be covered up easily.
And, you don't know who has a deeply symbolic tattoo that you think is there for "simply artistic reasons."

I have no problem with people getting tattoos for "simply artistic reasons", but I'm saying I would never get a tattoo for that reason.
And I have no problem with males having tattoos, because I've never cared about a male's appearance.
But a female can be attractive, and then get a tattoo and become completely unattractive.
That's the only problem I have with tattoos.
