If they're gonna allow ONE religious monument, then I think it's pretty necessarily mandatory to allow any (all?) religious monuments. As more than one other poster noted, it would be a way cool way to in-yer-face demonstrate our solid constitutional beliefs in Freedom of Religion.
Something literally to be proud of and to tout "overseas".
However...
The Satanist monument is WAY too fragile - they should make whatever stuff they want be there be mere reliefs on a background, otherwise in short order - purposefully or not - pieces are gonna get broken off.
Neither is the Ten Commandments monument likely to stay, because it has not been up enough long enough to establish a historical tolerance, like the one in Texas that had been unsuccessfully challenged as unconstitutional. So the Supreme Court decided to let it stand. The one in Oklahoma has only been up for a year or two, not long enough to establish historical significance. Also thanks to some other Supreme Court ruling Texas doesn't have to allow any new monuments on its state capitol grounds it does not want.
Why can't we all give up the fairy tales?
There is no god, there is no jesus, there is no allah, there is no satan, there is no santa, there is no competent member of government.
well, if they did that...i wouldn't be happy at all.
there's tolerance...then there's a slap in the face.
this is that.
Is it any more of a slap in the face than a statue of Budda or Adi Shakt? All representation of other religions are technically contradicting your "special" religion, so what is the difference?

Others tolerate the 10 commandments being displayed. How is that not a slap in the face to non-Christians, especially when the first commandment says not to worship other gods? The Satanist statues isn't a list of rules, just a statue of Satan.

yes it is.
if they put a buddha up because people wanted it for it...then that's a lot more 'fine' than if people put up a satanist sculpture as an 'eff you, religious people'.
if they want religious tolerance from the religious...perhaps they should excercise some themselves.

when the religious put up their monuments...they don't do it to be offensive. they do it out of virtue for their religion. religious tolerance goes both ways...just because you don't happen to find religion uplifting and personally gratifying it doesn't mean others don't. why would you, in essence, flip them off because of it?
i may or may not be religious...that's not the issue. the issue is being antagonistic for absolutely no reason.
yes it is.

Who the hell are you to tell this Satanist Church and its adherents that their religion and religious beliefs aren't valid?
I'm kinda glad this happened. It exposes how rude and childish anti-Christian & anti-religion bigots are. They think they're being clever, when in reality they just showing themselves to be arrogant jerks.
The Ten Commandments are there because of their historical significance and the reverence it represents to the people who live there. The Baphomet statue was paid for by a group halfway across the country, specifically to spite Christians.
