The Summit for Courageous Conversation : Save the Dates October 26 - 30, 2013
The Summit for Courageous Conversation brings together dedicated leaders for racial equity from across the nation to engage in a deepened conversation about systemic racism and its impact on opportunity and achievement for all students. The Summit provides a unique space for collaborative exploration of the knowledge and skills needed to eliminate racial educational disparities.
Yeah, I read it the first time it was posted here - like a year ago. Still doesn't say anything about PB&J sandwiches being racist, but I know some people here have trouble distinguishing between inclusiveness and racism (even though they're actually antonyms). Like "OMG, they want to make sure children of cultures OTHER than Aryan/WASP can feel included? That's racist!!"
it's word games here. What does "White privilege" really mean in that context ?

I hate that term, so don't even want to go there... but the article is merely saying that SOME children (especially in regions with a lot of immigrants) might not eat PB&J sandwiches, so maybe they should find lessons that include a larger variety of foods.
We have a ton of Asian/Indian people where I live, and at some schools, probably half of the student population doesn't bring sandwiches for lunch. I was tutoring a young Vietnamese boy for a time, and when asked to write a school essay about his favorite food, he chose to write about Pho. No harm in making kids like him feel more included, is there? He was American born, btw, with immigrant parents.
No but she seems more than willing to replace bread with torta saying Whites can do it so why can't Browns.
She doesn't say racist or racism; she says it's "White Privilege".
The article that the RWNJ writer refers to does NOT say PB&J is racist. It says that talking only about foods that your students never heard of makes for shoddy teaching.
You never get tired of this simplistic, made-up stuff sent to you from Breitbart, do you?
I enjoy hearing about other cultures and their food. If you were an immigrant in Germany and they talked about schnitzel would that be shoddy teaching? Shouldn't you want to learn about things in the culture that you've moved into? Hummus? Gyros? Hamburgers? Bubble and squeak?
How dare that school deprive foreign born students from being exposed to a new culture? We are admonished when we travel to foreign lands and show reluctance in devouring local fare make from dogs or goats or dogs and goats smothered in year old fermented fish.
Better ccourageous conversation include the potentially offended students and explain to them no offense is intended and if they are offended they are considered ethnocentric and offensive to Americans.
Explain how skin color is so important to liberals and why it cannot be overlooked and how it can be truned into a weapon.
After all "Wonder bread builds bodies 12 different ways".

You forgot to mention everybody's two favorites - haggis and spotted dick!
lol, you can tell this article was specially made for mass consumption by right-wing xenophobes who are easily led down the primrose path. Hell, a lot of RWNJs even fall for Onion articles, LOL
