WRONG!!! The mere questioning of Israel is blatant antisemitism. Don't think so? Ask Abe Foxman, he will tell you.
I don't see anything anti-Semitic, any criticism of Israel seems to be taken as discrimination against jews. Nixon's criticism revolved around Israel undermining the peace process. He put his country before Israel, why is that even an issue.
Where can we hear the actual tapes? I say it's wrong to make such a huge, negative stain against the guy until we've seen the evidence to back it up.
The Nixon Library in Yorba Linda, CA. You can sit and listen to them. (I have.) Transcripts are also available and have been since the 70's.
The Los Angeles Times published pages and pages of the Nixon tapes about the time of the David Frost interview. Nixon being anti-Semitic is not new information.
Kissinger plays the Jewish card when it's convenient, but he never stood up to Nixon and his aides over it. But Kissinger clearly knew that Nixon was an anti Semite.
The tape transcription already revealed it.
In a meeting in the EOB with Haldeman, they discussed Mark Felt being the leaker to the WAPO, and discussed what they should do about it. Nixon asked Haldeman if Felt was a Catholic (he was anti Catholic too), and Haldeman told Nixon that Felt was a Jew and wanted the top job (FBI director) held at the time (on an interim basis) by Patrick Gray. Nixon basically recoiled in horror, and said that they couldn't give Felt the job for that reason alone, and Haldeman agreed.
The kicker is that Felt isn't Jewish.
And he made many other anti Semitic remarks too. Billy Graham later apologized for agreeing with comments made by Nixon that were caught on the tapes.
His anti semitism is the biggest open secret in the world.
was his stance so strange for the times , back then , most republicans were anti catholic and hardly any catholics voted republican anyway , this was also long before the days of the Christian right being such a huge part of the party , the " Israel firsters " were a generation away

True...his stance was certainly emblematic of the times. Nixon was a major bigot.
It didn't hamper his ability to get things done and I give him credit for that.

Goodnight, don't be thick. That was sarcasm if you didn't catch it. Look up who Abe Foxman is if you still don't get it. Truth is, I agree whole-hardheartedly with what Nixon said. I didn't agree with many of Nixon's policies, but he was one of the last Presidents to stand up to the Israeli lobby. That is likely why they hung him out to dry.
