I don't know what it was like for you growing up, but where I'm from, if you insult someone and pick a fight, they will beat your ass.

If I realized he was drunk off his a__ I probably would have just brushed him off, not even exchange much words with him. But most people won't do that. You're right. It's the risk and we have to accept our medicine.
I was drunk when I got triple tapped by .40 caliber rounds from a cop and I didn't even get to touch him, though I did move quickly toward him. And I accept my medicine. By rules of the street if a man has a gun aimed on you and you don't bow down you get what's coming. I got what was coming. Being drunk was part of the problem. The major part of the problem actually.
I'm sure many white folks will say I got what was coming. But they're disheartened this white cat got what came.
(The guy was overboard to just about to attempt to hit the drunken man again, and I say that because I know, and he should have known, he could have killed the cat and ended up with a homicide rap. But his attempt is why I told my nephews when they were young that you can't count on the generosity of your opponent, protect yourself at all times, because if you get knocked out the guy might pick up a 12 inch cement block and slam it down on your head.)
it sucks that he was so seriously injured. now the guy who punched him will probably spend some time in jail. if he would've just dotted his eye and the loud mouth walked away from it, I can't think of anyone who would care.
Public intoxication is a crime. And the man's drunkenness interrupted a guy on a date with his girlfriend and people eating peacefully at a restaurant.
