Just think..with the government owning the means of production, everyone would get a livable wage, health insurance, benefits, etc. No greedy CEO's to suck the wealth from you.

Just a matter of time. With all the outrage over capitalism and the cry for "government to do something about it", communism seems the only solution to make the left happy.
Obama has half the country in a frothing rage against anyone who dares to earn over $250K a year. They are ready to march in the streets with their pitchforks against anyone successful enough to run a business. The Hollywood and pop culture crowd are excluded from this hatred of course, because they are the Preezy's peeps.

But back in those days, we were fairly ignorant of the new toxins we were producing. No one knew the hazards of simple things like dust and/or the various cancer causing chemicals, China has no excuse for this, they know the hazards, and they don't care.

The notion of Chinese people sacrificing their own interests today, for the interests of new generations of Chinese people in the future, is seen as sacrificing for the greater good. This is the thinking of Confucius and Mao Zedong, and I'm sure the current Chinese leadership believes in it too, since they are busy sacrificing generations of Chinese right now.

We don't either. We excepted fracking from Clean Water Act (for example), and wish to follow China rather than our own experiences why pollution regulations exist here, but not there. BTW, do they have minimum wage requirement in China? Regulations to ensure businesses don't take workers for a ride? The kinds of things seen as abomination by the right wingers here?

At least we are critical of any politician when they go against the interests and welfare of the people and the nation. The left in this country see, hear and speak no evil of their politicians. And even when the dem's politicians behave or perform poorly, they simply reelect them anyway.

That doesn't include people like you.

Yeah, doing the opposite of what they do in China... regulate businesses, control pollution, demand minimum wage and improve it, working conditions, the issues that people like you detest and wage war against.

Do we need to go down this road again? The minimum wage is why so few high school kids have summer jobs. Fracking has not been proven to cause poisoning of ground water. We've been doing fracking since the 1940s and the EPA is studying the issue, because even after 70 years, there still is no proof of health hazards from fracking.

And there you go backing up what I just said. China does all of that.

If "works" simply means getting economic results, yes the Chinese gov't works pretty damn well. In my ancestral country, India, political deadlock and a paralyzed bureaucracy hampers growth. In China, the gov't gets the things it needs to get done in a much more timely manner. I'm not necessarily saying the authoritarian style of gov't is superior, and China has its own problems; however, you have to give the CPC some credit for their focus.

Quit trying to compare people to yourself. I'm not a stooge for the government like you. Unlike you, I do not believe everything our government does is wonderful and divine. I do realize that some people go into government so they can use the power and force of government to impose their will on other people. Others go into government to enrich and empower themselves at the expense of the people.

I have been critical of many politicians, from all political parties, I do believe in regulations and laws, they form the very framework of a free society. But there comes a time when too many regulations change from the government looking out for our welfare, into governmental tyranny and control of the people. China does regulate and control their people thru draconian laws and regulations. Not to look out for their welfare, but to control them. Our country is getting closer to controlling every facet of our lives with some new law or regulation, our government is just the kinder, gentler tyrant then those in China.

Our country is filled with control freaks in government, who crank out 10,000 new regulations and laws every year. Eventually, one day, we won't be able to pass gas in public without violating some law or regulation. If you want to use our military as an example, they have already been cautioned about passing gas in public in Afghanistan, so maybe we aren't too far away from that day here.
