Actually they were, we had a thriving economy then so you could afford to pay those taxes.

Actually, no, I couldn't. Hence the need to pay the frickin' things with a credit card. I expect you'll see a lot more of that if Obama raises taxes in JA.

I look at the Democrats argument and have to think that it is all about WINNING, it has nothing to do with the fiscal health of this country. They NEED to punish those that have achieved something.....otherwise why would they be going after the $250K plus earners.....these people arent rich!! People making more than a $1M per year;may be rich. The Democrats won the presidential election on a platform of increasing taxes on the top 2%....I say give them their 4% tax increase on the wealthiest in this country. It wont really hurt the top earners that much. What will happen is....in a few years the country will realize that this tax increase did squat to solve the debt and deficit spending crisis we are facing.....a path to certain destruction of everyones way of life....it is unsustainable. The Dems will be back at the trough for more taxes soon enough because it will NEVER be enough to solve the issue. The Republicans can then look the country in the face and say "told you so" and maybe convince those with any brains that we have a spending problem.... not a revenue problem. Then and only then will be be able to start on a path of fixing the fiscal mess we are in. There is no way in any sane accountant's play-book that we are gonna tax our way out of this mess.

Income earners exceeding $250,000 will only be paying a higher tax rate by 3 % on the amount exceeding $250,000 and up to $380,000. Below that amount they pay the same as before. Why is that so unfair?

The top 1 % are not actually paying anywhere near 30 % and nor will they even if the Bush tax cuts are repealed. In 2010 the top 1 to 5 % paid 17 % in federal income tax according to the IRS.

I didnt say anything about unfair. What I said was that this is a post election victors feel-good measure....it has little to do with fiscal solvency and that isnt going to be realized by this country until the taxes are allowed to be increased and the war of words is put to bed. It will fail as a solution to the debt crisis. There isnt enough revenue to be generated by taxing the rich to solve a 17 Trillion $$ deficit.....the math doesnt work. We have a major spending problem and nobody has the cajones to cut it enough to matter....political suicide. The pain will be too great but sooner or later we are going to pay the piper and no amount of taxes on the wealthy is going to make the final dose of medicine taste any better......stand by.

That's a shame, guess you weren't properly taking advantage of a good economy with a good paying job.

The White House has proposed several hundred billion in spending cuts in the 2013 budget, so I don't know why everyone keeps saying that.

If JB were smart, he'd offer a 2nd Grand Bargain, tellling the WH it was his own job to get 80% of the non TP votes..about 110-120. The Dems would need to get about the same and the onus in this scenario should fall on the WH, and we'd have a balanced deal that would make a meaningful dent.

It would also allow the true GOP a chance to regain its footing, by sidestepping the TP. they could offer to add timeout steps for the TP children to cry on..it would not cost much.

We would now not be in this mess we are in. No Hope no Change, and no moving forward?

Obama brought to the table, not one damn thing different, infact he has made everything every freaking thing more miserable for so many people, who never ever thought, they would be in this position.

If Obama truly cared about the people, he would level with them, instead of his usual lies we can see right thru.
