Obama administration: Toss wiretap lawsuit - Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009 | 10:47 a.m. - Las Vegas Sun (http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2009/oct/31/obama-administration-toss-wiretap-lawsuit/ - broken link)

Quote:
Attorney General Eric Holder says a lawsuit in San Francisco over warrantless wiretapping threatens to expose ongoing intelligence work and must be thrown out.

In making the argument, the Obama administration agreed with the Bush administration's position on the case but insists it came to the decision differently. A civil liberties group criticized the move Friday as a retreat from promises President Barack Obama made as a candidate.
Ah ha! I see now. Even though he arrived at the same conclusion as Bush, the WAY he arrived at that same conclusion exempts him from his previous criticism of the practice. Got that?

Quote:
"The Obama administration has essentially adopted the position of the Bush administration in these cases, even though candidate Obama was incredibly critical of both the warrantless wiretapping program and the Bush administration's abuse of the state secrets privilege," said Bankston.
But, but, but, their intentions are so pure.

Well I guess he's discovered that governing (being the decider as it were) is a whole lot different than campaigning.

Yeah....to get elected!.....YOU LIE!....lol...Oh, that's right you can't say that about this administration.

"Because, he's lying....he can't tell you the truth"

For at least four years I warned those folks on the right who supported the Bush administrations consolidation of power into the Executive Branch, but oddly enough, most on the right welcomed big government into their living rooms. The one day, they wake up to find that all that power that had been collected was now in the hands of an oppositional party and suddenly, it became something of a lark.

Now the right wing will wish to hoist this up so they can say... see see, but they can't really say it is bad since they were in full of support of its use and inclusion into our daily lives. Oddly enough, the once loud and protesting left have suddenly found themselves rather passive and lukewarm to caring much about it.

Just one more example of how the right and left both LOVE government peeking into your life.

I dont think the right is for bigger gov but the fear of 9-11 allowed the move towards big gov. Now the right is being reminded of what the big gov leads to and they are waking up

This is just #216452514546 of a politican telling us they are going to do one thing and does another. democrats will make excuses for it.

Hopefully one day citizens of both parties will wake up and actually hold them accountable for keeping their promises to us.

The right wing of American politics has no problem, in fact it LOVES government intervention and interference as long as it is for right wing issues.

Fighting against the expanding size of government was once a cornerstone issue of Conservatives, but only one that I know of said anything of protest when DHS was formed. The Republican answer to the debacle that is and was 9-11, expand and create more government. That was their solution, they did it all on their own and they had the full support of their brothers in arms/politics, the Democrats.

Terry Shivo ring a bell? How about those on the right who want to add an amendment to the United States Constitution, that restricts the liberty of people based on religious sentiments, ie, gay marriage ring a bell?

The right wing of American politics has no problem what so ever with more government, more government intervention, more spending, more, more more... as long as it is THEIR pet projects and issues.

The point is that obama campaigned vigorously against such programs, he demonized Bush for the "power grab" of the executive. He promised to turn the page back. Many of his sycophants believed him, some knew he was full of crap.

Turns out we were right.

He did campaign under the premise of retuning transparency and I pointed out how laughable this notion was. Those in power never willingly cede back power to others. However I would ask you cite more than one case where Obama "demonized" Bush's power grab. It was never Bush's "power grab", this was done primarily by Dick Cheney and he did so openly. Cheney has always advocated for a stronger and more Unitarian Executive Branch since back during his time in the Nixon White House.

Ultimately, I'm guessing this thread is about saying, "neener neener" Democrats than it is about any outrage over wiretapping issues. Which is fine, just wanted to be clear.

True, but at least he's starting to learn the job is more than just a set of political ideologies.
