It is true the US is becoming more and more liberal.
However, I suppose "marriage" will not exist in the US soon, not to mention same sex marriage. Over 50% marriage lead to divorce anyway. Legalizing same sex marriage only makes the process even faster.
In Netherlands, same sex marriage lasts two years, on average.

Of course there is no 'single' gay or hetero gene. Human sexuality is far too complex for one gene.

The fetal brain develops during the intrauterine period in the male direction through a direct action of testosterone on the developing nerve cells, or in the female direction through the absence of this hormone surge. In this way, our gender identity (the conviction of belonging to the male or female gender) and sexual orientation are programmed or organized into our brain structures when we are still in the womb.
There is no indication that social environment after birth has an effect on gender identity or sexual orientation.
The scans reveal that in gay people, key structures of the brain governing emotion, mood, anxiety and aggressiveness resemble those in straight people of the opposite sex.
"This is the most robust measure so far of cerebral differences between homosexual and heterosexual subjects," she says.
Previous studies have also shown differences inbrain architecture and activity between gay and straight people, but most relied on people's responses to sexuality driven cues that could have been learned, such as rating the attractiveness of male or female faces.
To get round this, Savic and her colleague, Per Lindström, chose to measure brain parameters likely to have been fixed at birth.
"That was the whole point of the study, to show parameters that differ, but which couldn't be altered by learning or cognitive processes," says Savic.

Several studies report that the cognitive performance of gay males is more typical of heterosexual females than heterosexual males.

I don't think we should ever be "satisfied," nor do I think anyone ever really is -- this is self-deception.
I think there are Biblical passages to the effect that we should constantly inquire and constantly seek out truth and test our views. You probably know them better than I.
Western countries banned research that look for "treatment" of homosexuality.
This is how ideology affects science/technology.

The 1950's were a particularly nasty time for gay and lesbian people being forced to undergo 'cures':
Homosexual Dachau? This name doesn't have anything to do with World War II. More than any other mental institution in the United States, Atascadero State Hospital was a chamber of horrors for homosexuals. The tag "HomosexualDachau" was well-earned for its forced lobotomies, castrations and brutal treatments practiced at that facility. Hundreds of gays and lesbians were forcibly sent by their families to be cured of homosexuality which, as recently as the early 1970s, was considered a sexual and psychological disorder.
At Atascadero State Hospital, doctors (I use that term loosely) were permitted under an obscure California law to commit those who practiced sodomy into the hospital. Once admitted, normal men and women were rendered mentally disabled through the torture of castration, lobotomies, forced chemical treatments and experimental treatments. The horrors experienced by hundreds are almost too hard to comprehend in America.
The most notorious was a Dr. Walter J. Freeman who perfected the ice pick lobotomy. He jammed an ice pick through a homosexual's eyes into the brain and performed a primitive lobotomy. He believed deeply this was the only way to cure homosexuality.
Research goes as far back as the 1940's with Dr Kurt Freund's work in Czechoslovakia with using penile plesmographs on men who claimed to be homosexual to avoid the draft. Freund was also one of the first clinicians involved in so-called 'conversion therapy'. Because of the evidence that showed that homosexual men could not change to become heterosexual, he was instrumental in the decriminalization of homosexuality in Czechoslovakia.
That was about 70 years ago and a large body of scientific research since then has proven that sexual orientation is not a 'choice', isn't 'caused by the way a child is raised or by sexual abuse etc.
On the other hand, there have been NO studies that have shown that homosexuals can successfully change their sexual orientation to heterosexual. Given the differences in brain structure and functioning that we now know about fromn fMRI and PET scans, that's not surprising.
Why would we want to keep on experimenting and virtually torturing gay and lesbian people when we know it's futile anyway and not necessary in the first place?
Critical thinking skill sets in America are in the gutter.
