I tend to agree with you. It could also be he disagreed with the current administration.

His timing of leaving before testifying before Congress just was very poor and questionable.

BTW, thanks for your service.

Then he would have stepped down without mentioning the affair. I mean, really, what's honorable about having an affair? He had chinks in his armor, just like all men do.

The old 'time with my family' excuse seems to always work.

No. He resigned to avoid the cloud of blackmail. He beat the WH to the punch and now he's free to say what really happened.

4. So he said he would reveal the affair on his own which gives him ability to testify any way he wishes.

The affair was going to get out, either by him or by the WH if he gave damaging testimony. He's a straightfoward man who decided the best course was to meet it head on and get it over with.

Now he's free!

And he'll be talking about Benghazi. You betcha!
BINGO!

So Oliver North resigned before the president had to get up in front of the public and tell everyone how he, to his best knowledge, had no recollection of funds transferred through hostile regimes to "freedom fighters" and the entire thing was all his fault.

You people are some of the most gullible people on this planet.

Petraeus was given an out or else. You think this petty government isn't willing to threaten people by force an coercion?

Smoke you another one and go play some World of Warcraft.

David Petraeus is truly an amazing guy. He was shot thru-and-thru by an M-16 in a training accident. He wanted out of the hospital but the docs would not release him so he pulled out the tubes did 50 pushups (IIRC) and told the docs "I am not the norm." They let him out.

He earned a PhD in poli sci from Princeton. He is an avid lifelong runner and ran a 2:50 marathon, by far the fastest time of any politico. By contrast W Bush's time was 3:44, Sarah Palin's time was 3:59, and Al Gore's time was 4:54.

To bad it had to end this way, but for me it does not tarnish his record as a great man and great American.

He is a real man. Real men cheat.
And, not everything has to be a "conspiracy".
Sometimes things happen simply out of incompetence.
Saving face isn't exactly a new concept.

There is gullibility and then there is outright stupidity...

The threat and coercion lies with keeping the adultery secret.
