A good reason to work would be because it is the moral and ethical thing to do, but if we go by example via our fearless leaders in government, like flip flop Romney, or the Warmongers in taking what you want from other countries, then we can throw ethics and morals out the window I guess.

People have no problem with people like Ayan Rand, Romney, Warmongers, Theives and Criminals etc doing as they please in their self interests, and have no obligation to anyone but themselves, so go ahead and collect welfare since you would be acting in kind.

In order to have a true free market economy we would also need to eliminate the conflict of interests that exists, such as Heads of Corporations and Banks going into politics in order to rig the markets to their interests as well, as well as getting rid of the lobbyists.

some have said that people on welfare 'should' go out and get a job because it is more ethical, but what is their real incentive?

is there really the chance for promotion for the dishwashers of the world??

End welfare.

About the same chance of promotion and a raise in many minimum wage jobs!

Where's the promotion for the 99.9 percent of burger flippers who don't want a promotion to managing other burger flippers?

How about asking yourself, Why would anybody accept welfare when they could earn their own way?
Unfortunately, only 1 person in 1,000,000 today would work for the reasons you give. Work is selling your life away: why not enjoy life and get money for free from others? Plus, with no incentive to get free money, many more people would DO the things you suggest above?

Even worse, you'd have to make a LOT more than minimum wage to equal the value of the give-away programs, and you'll be nowhere near the poverty level at minimum wage or near it. Wages have lots of taxes, government dole has none. And Medicaid doesn't even ask for co-pays, let alone premiums. The benefits of not working, but relying on taxpayers, go on and on.

"The value of the full package of welfare benefits for a typical recipient in each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia exceeds the poverty level. Because welfare benefits are tax-free, their dollar value is often greater than the amount of take-home income a worker would have left after paying taxes on an equivalent pretax income... Welfare provides the equivalent of an hourly pretax wage of $14.75 in New York City, $12.45 in Philadelphia, $11.35 in Baltimore, and $10.90 in Detroit. For the hard-core welfare recipient, the value of the full range of welfare benefits substantially exceeds the amount the recipient could earn in an entry-level job. As a result, recipients are likely to choose welfare over work, thus increasing long-term dependence." The Work Versus Welfare Trade-Off: An Analysis of the Total Level of Welfare Benefits by State

Minimum wage is usually temporary at most jobs. Once you've been there awhile you get a raise, a promotion, another job may come along that pay more within your skill set, etc. Welfare will always pay you crap. If you attempt to ride the "system" you will never make more than that six hundred some odd bucks, social security will be less when you go to draw it, and credit is non-existent for welfare lifers . Plus as far as enjoying life, poor living sucks unless your mama will let you crash on her sofa until one one of dies.

How about raising the minimum wage to above the poverty line so that anyone who works a full time job can afford housing and food for them and their family and not have to rely on public safety nets.....or we could continue blaming the poor as if everyone that is poor must be lazy while ignoring all of the poor working class people in this country....all while letting the wealthiest people go with their tax loopholes to lower how much they have to pay in taxes all while the middle class gets screwed over and squeezed out, slowly turning the middle class into the growing poor that people here seem to think are all just lazy people.

Ha! most of the middle class is treading pretty close to that poverty line once taxes are taken out. So much for "growing poor"
