I hold onto my australian residency for this very reason.. there are many americans that retire in australia.. and they LOVE it... I managed to keep lots of investments in Aussie dollars.. and since the US dollar has sank... I have made out pretty good... also.. gold is a good thing to get into right now as well....
I was unable to post to the "101 reasons" thread, so here goes---I think that, aside from the "Clod" factor, and the annoying "Bunkhouse accent", the underlying reason Bush makes us so uncomfortable is that he represents a "new" way of thinking which the majority of the American public has not yet come to grips with, and that is that Bush and his ilk see themselves as not so much Americans, as "citizens of the world", BASED in America, mostly for its wide-open business climate and its freedoms.
They see all of the world as their "plum", and show little concern for sovereignty and borders, regarding these as merely quaint vestiges of a rapidly-disappearing "old order". Europe has already surpassed us in this transition.
Looking around the globe, I doubt that most Americans are really ready to "throw in" with their fellow members of the human race just yet; nevertheless, it appears we have little choice in the matter.
The same fears were projected when Nationalism surpassed Provincialism during the Renaissance to the 19th Century. Nationalism has only fractured the human race and destroyed freedom.

You all forgot to mention that W is responsible for the loss of life in the Minneapolis bridge collapse. If the unemployment rate was higher, not so many people would have been driving home from work and wouldn't have been on the bridge.

W's list is too long to even type here...I honesty have to say that in my book he will go down as one of the worst presidents ever!

Same reason why I will not apply for citizenship over here. I have a green card and am a legal resident, have been for 15 years, but I want to keep my EU passport. The reason I am here is my american husband. Looking at returning to Europe in our retirement years, only problem is the falling $, if it keeps going the way it currently is, we won't be able to afford it. Time will tell....
Seems like u can almost blame anything on Bush...he gives the public many reasons to take aim and fire. My own son was cursing the name of Bush and when I asked him why I laughed myself to silly...my son said it is Bushes fault it is so hot in AZ and he is suffering because this guy is the president. I am not a big Bush fine, but I don't think we can blame the weather on him... Though we may indeed be suffering as a result of Bush's public policies:
Socialism is economic system as with Communism and Capitalism. Provincialism/Nationalism are not.
Your answer is in part correct.
"Socialism refers to a broad array of doctrines or political movements that envisage a socio-economic system in which property and the distribution of wealth are subject to control by the community[1] for the purposes of increasing social and economic equality and cooperation"
But don't you agree that a political movement such as Socialism could sprout a changing Nationalism?
