Why is it that these days the only group still publicly humiliated on a day to day basis is conservative whites? You see it in hollywood movies, blogs, liberal news stations and in universities across the nation. People either call us evil heartless conservatives, dumb imbed rednecks or hypocrite christians. I live in a very liberal city in a very liberal part of the country and I hear this hatred so much it appalls me. So what if someone works a blue collar job. That doesn't mean they are stupid. If anything it's the opposite because those types of jobs require both physical toughness, technical skills and trouble shooting skills that you won't find in some big university. What's wrong with guns? Our forefathers gave us the right to bear arms so that we would never again be defenseless against a corrupt government. Conservatives are stupid? The states doing the best in the economic depression are the states with fiscal conservative policies. Alaska, Wyoming and even several southern states are doing well because companies are actually welcomed there. Look at my home state Oregon. Because of well intended anti logging policies our rural communities have unemployment rates far above the national average. These policies and driving residents to either leave or turn to illegal forms of business like meth and marijuana. Alaska on the other hand is becoming a place of rural prosperity because of much more lenient logging policies. Now look at michigan and look at texas and tell me whose economic policies are causing growth. Liberals have good intentions but, cause horrible results. No wonder people are leaving california in hordes. I feel like the can-do spirit, hard work attitude, free market ideals and christians morals that helped to make our country great are being replaced by a culture of guilt, College educated snobbery, socialism, selfishness and acting like a victim. I don't care how much the liberals make fun of me, I'm proud to be a blue collar raised conservative.

Are you sure you don't care much? Doesn't look that way...
Anyway, I don't like the way you mix things. Just because someone is blue-collar doesn't mean they are conservative, like guns, are christian, etc.

It is so true; it seems that there is always a segment of people with a deep-seated need to hate. In colonial days they would have been witch hunters. In 1950 they would have been KKK. in 2012, they gravitate to the radical 'occupy' wing of the Democratic Party.

Just take the example of how Sarah Palin is treated by them. First so many smears against her during the 08 campaign that one blogger created a database to track them all. Including various conspiracy theories having to do w/ her kids. Nothing off limits. Then the bizarre attempt to link her to the shooting of Rep. Giffords. In 50 years, historians will look back on it the same way we look back on the witch hunters of Salem.

When did conservatism become synonymous with blue collar? To me you can't get any more blue collar than unions and most of the union bashing is coming from conservatives.

I think you're confusing "working men" i.e. "blue collar" with people who are assumed to always vote "blue" or Democrat/liberal. Most people in the unions I've met are quite conservative, it's just the unions that take their dues and donate to political causes they don't support.

I think a lot of it goes back to the gay issue. Most working class people are less educated and more likely to be religious and/or homophobic and that's what liberals are disgusted with. That, and they also tend to be global warming deniers or at least dont support global warming legislation.

There are all sorts of conservatives. That's what the "conservatives", the extremists, don't seem to understand. As far as the blue collar folks go, well, it's the GOP which has sought to dismantle their lifestyles. It's an unprecidented, in my lifetime, attack on the workers in the country ... launched by the GOP across the country. Regarding rednecks ... they're not entitled to respect. Take the sheets off their heads, and expose them to the light! Maybe, like vampires, they'll burn-up in the Sun! There's always hope.

The problem with unions is after a while they do more harm then good. Sure some are for good causes such as workers rights and whatnot but, these days most demand expensive pensions and ridiculous rules that actually make it harder for companies to hire more people, thus causing more unemployment. Why do you think GM is sending more jobs to plants overseas while other car companies are actually creating factories in the south.

That's a topic for a different thread. The subject of this thread is prejudice against blue collar people. Some of the harshest comments are against union workers. I've read comments in which they are described as lazy and spoiled. These comments seem to come mainly from conservatives, who are complaining about prejudice against blue collar workers.
