If the Indians are offended by a word or saying then how do they feel about Washington D.C. pro football team the REDSKINS.Miami of Ohio at Oxford had the name Redskins and it was to honor the tribe till one student of Indian descent was offended now they are the Red Hawks.JMO.

What will the Redskins call themselves the Congressionals, the Gladiators or the Lame Ducks...lollollol.

I'm 1/2 Native American and grew up being called:
Squaw
Drunk 'enjun'
Indian Giver
and numerous other things by ignorant whites.

I can assure you I was called those things with malicious intent. I responded by giving a warning to stop. They never listened to that request, so I would then proceed to beat the crap out of the stupid white kids. Then they stopped.

As an adult, I've change my response. I no longer beat the crap out stupid people. Plus, I do not encounter too man people who call me squaw or Indian giver. If they do, I handle it calmness, and in a manner appropriate for the situation.

Most people who use those terms do so out of sheer ignorance and lack of character and are usually of low class. Some say them with a malicious intent, and they too are usually of low class. People who use terms to put others down do so because they themselves are lacking internal peace. They errouneously believe by putting others down that it makes them bigger and better.

OP...
Once I became mature and knowledgeable, I understood that the only "Indians" in the USA were the ones that came from India. Right off the bat it is easy to see why you would not find something that is offensive...offensive.

The phrase "Indian Giver" was meant to be derogatory by the white man even though there was a valid reason that often Native Americans demanded that property be given back to them.
