If you look at the steady drop for Obama here since the day he said he wouldn't guarantee any Social Security checks after August 2, it becomes more and more apparent that some old people are being called and they are not happy. Obama better hurry up and apologize for saying that or start blaming Geithner for saying the words. Only two people can stop the checks from going out and they are the two. I wonder if he took his shoe off before he stuck his foot in his mouth and what he had stepped in if he didn't.

obama was incorrectly assuming that our senior citizens do not know that his administration controls what money is spent on. Congress only authorizes the funds, it's up to 0bama and Geithner to decide if they do not want to send out the checks.

As far as I can tell, President Obama was right in saying that there is uncertainty about Social Security checks next month.
If you're relying on a government check — a benefit check or a paycheck — you may or may not get it after Aug. 2. (The government is scheduled to deliver a round of Social Security checks on Aug. 3.)
And apparently it's not just President Obama:
Quote:
A trio of Republican lawmakers introduced a bill on Wednesday that would have the government prioritize military salaries and debt payments. Not on their list? Social Security and unemployment.
Obama tried some reverse political psychology....he thought it would impact Republicans. Seems like it backfired. Did he forget he was up for re-election and that the oldest amongst us are the move active voters?

My in-laws who both are on SS, asked me to do some research on a new laptop to replace their ageing computer. I found a very good deal for them over the weekend, but now they tell me they are putting any major purchases on hold due to Obama saying there may not be SS checks next month.
I'm sure they are not the only ones holding on to their money, which is hurting the economy by doing that. I'm all for saving, but what we need is for people to wisely spend to keep our economic engine moving.

And they believed what Obama said in the MSM.
No research into whether or not Obama was telling the truth.
No follow up on Congress direct question to the SS guy regarding that 8/3 payment.
No reading that there IS money to make those payments.
Social secuity checks will likely not stop, but Obama was right not to sugarcoat the issue and tell Americans that this is the kind of thing that is to a significant degree funded from federal borrowing and that ultimately everything is on the table if this issue isn't resolved.
At any rate, you'd think conservatives around here would be happy about this prospect after all of their talk of the liberal socialist entitlements that are hurting the country. Here's an opportunity to see a significant and drastic spending cut go into effect.
