In view of the fact that private organisation of production is a function of national concern, the organiser of the enterprise is responsible to the State for the direction given to production.”
- Benito Mussolini (Fascism: Doctrine and Institutions, 1935)

Mussolini was anti-liberalism. He believed in corporations as being the drivers of the economy and that the government should stay out of the way until the private enterprise fails. Then the government must step up and fix things. This is exact opposite of the accusation laid by every hater on Obama.

For Obama to be a fascist, anybody who labels him as a socialist/communist will have to be an idiot and utterly ignorant of the contrasting political ideologies. He can’t be both in the sane world. Or, perhaps that he can be a pragmatist, open to both sides of the spectrum, hence falling in the middle, the people maintaining extreme positions call him one or the other per convenience, as a political tactic.

The right wing has a habit of whining and crying, regardless of what he does. If he hires a non-corporate person to lead or advice on economic policies, it is about his “inexperience” and that he is anti-business. If he hires a person with corporate background, we get to see threads like this.

So, what do you think? Is he a fascist? Or a communist/socialist?
0bama cannot nationalize GE, now. However, having Immelt working closely with the 0bama administration is the next best thing until such time as corporations like GE could be folded into the government.

I don't know what 0bama's end game would be, and neither do you. Whatever his vision for the future of America might be, the country is clearly not there yet, so 0bama just uses what tools he has available to him.

When did you democrats suddenly find corny capitalism appealing? Or is it just the democrat partisan hacks who can't find fault with crony capitalism when its democrats engaging in it?

There are plenty of corrupt politicians who use government to make themselves rich and powerful, but if you are referring to the voters who vote republican, I don't know of any that approve of it.

You're pretty blind then, since even on this board most of the corporate apologists are Right-wingers throwing around Reaganite nonsense. Most people with sense have been labeling Obama a corporatist for years, while lots of people are still either enamored with him or so stupid that they conclude that he is a Marxist/Communist/Martian (see this thread for an excellent example).

The Republican Party is even more openly corporatist than the Democrats, and since the Democrats are huge cronies as well, that's saying a lot. I don't care about either the Democrats or the Republicans for the most part, but most criticism of corporate cronyism and the rising power of big business has come from the Left, not the Right, which is firmly pro-business/pro-capitalist/pro-corporatist.

Using the government to make themselves rich and powerful? That's your criteria?

You mean like being a former SecDef (despite 5 deferments and NEVER serving in the military), then going on to become the CEO of a company that gets big multi-billion dollar defense contracts in the Middle East?

Nah...i don't know any Repubs who'd approve of that!

I'm not sure what 0bama claims as his own specific political ideology, he may even just simply be a Fabian socialist.

Is crony capitalism what you dems wanted to see from 0bama? Lord knows there are enough dems out there who use their positions in government to enrich themselves, and their families and friends, but is this the new accepted behavior by elected politicians of the Democratic Party?

Quit deflecting. This is about 0bama, and how you democrats refuse to see any problem with what he is doing. 0bama is essentially stealing hundreds of billions in taxpayer dollars, totally eclipsing any prior acts of cronyism, and all you do is **** and whine about Dick freaking Cheney?

You said that Repubs would never approve of an elected official using the government to enrich themselves...and i gave you a clear example of a Republican doing so and having HUGE Republican support WHILE doing it!!!! In fact, he surely had your support too. So please....

I didn't deflect a damn thing.

I have all kinds of issues with taxpayer dollars continuing to be given carte blanche to private contractors, corporations, etc.
However, as with so many other examples, this seems to be yet another case of 'Obama is doing it, so (now) it is bad.'
When I see equal outrage regarding Haliburton, Lockheed, Boeing... I will regard this as a genuine desire for debate/discussion and will participate accordingly.

Question though. Obama campaigned heavily that he would not go to Washington and continue business as usual. Would you say, based upon his performance and actions like these, that he has held to his campaign promise?
