Here's a story fresh from WaPo, read it & weep .... then bend over, we're getting screwed again. When will our leaders FIX these messes?

Excerpts:

- What can $1,475 buy you in modern China? Not a Tiffany diamond or a mini-sedan, say Robert Zhou and Daisy Chao. But for that price, they guarantee you something more lasting, with unquestioned future benefits: an American passport and U.S. citizenship for your new baby. Zhou and Chao, a husband and wife from Taiwan who now live in Shanghai, run one of China's oldest and most successful consultancies helping well-heeled expectant Chinese mothers travel to the United States to give birth.

- The couple's service includes connecting expectant mothers with one of 3 Chinese-owned "baby care centers" in CA. For the $1,475 basic fee, Zhou and Chao will arrange for a three-month stay in a center -- two months before the birth and a month after. A room with cable TV and a wireless Internet connection, plus three meals a day, starts at an additional $35 a day. The doctors and staff all speak Chinese. There are shopping and sightseeing trips.

Is the number of Chinese who would/could do this worth the outrage?

One is too many and the entitlement costs of millions of these cases is staggering to government budgets at all levels.

IMO, this is the hidden reason behind why some in Congress want to cut the entitlement programs; they know the costs we're looking at down the road. Once they cut entitlements they can really open the gates to let anyone in for the sake of growth, the mantra of the corporatists who have been pulling the strings for a long time in DC.

How is it an "anchor baby"? The only benefit is to the child in 18-20 years when they will allowed to study and work in the USA - and possibly sponsor their parents. It's hardly cutting to the front of the line.

Chinese parents do it anyway. I live near the big Intel building in Chandler AZ and so many young Chinese couples here work at Intel then have their parents living with them taking care of the kids. In fact some morning the local park looks like one in China with a group of elderly Chinese doing tai ji quan. I doubt those parents all got proper Visas they just came over on tourist Visa and lay low, which is fine with me.

Are there really millions of cases of this? I find that very hard to believe.

Unless of course they decide to stay and qualify for social entitlements for their baby.

I think we'd all be very surprised if we knew how many pregnant women from all over the world come here just to have their babies due to the automatic citzenship.

Anywhere from 300,000 - 500,000 anchor babies are born in the US EACH YEAR.

Here's a 2008 article quoting the 300K number. And it's NOT just Mexicans..they fly in from all over the world, mostly third world countries.
Why not..they have absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Neither they nor their children will be refused entitlements.

Illegal Immigrant Births - At Your Expense - CBS Evening News - CBS News

2009 article quoting the 400K number:
Frosty Wooldridge -- Anchor Babies: Born in the USA, Part 1

European countries have done away with birthright citzenship because of this very abuse of it.

Give me your tired, your hungry, your poor..... Is that how the saying goes? Anyway, while this is disgusting and undermines our citizenship process, we do know one thing. At least the Chinese mothers and their children wont be holding Chinese pride rallies, be putting the Chinese flag over the American flag at schools, and talking s**t about America day in and day out like many of those from our "friend" to the south. On the flipside, they will most likely love America for the opportunity she provides them, and the children will go on to excel in our top colleges and be productive citizens. Their communities flourish and they take pride in what they do. They will more than likely appreciate what America has to offer, instead of expecting special treatment like it is their birthright. While I know that some exist, I still have yet to meet a lazy, unproductive, and unappreciative asian family.

No reason to really seperate the nationality of one "anchor baby" from another. The birthright citizenship in the Constitution needs to be amended immediately to reflect that those whose parents are not here legally do not get automatic citizenship, period.

Come on man an obvious extreme website with picture of American flags all over it giving no source at all for some 400k claim? That is no source.
