That's good to hear, and thanks for sending me to google for siloviki - although gg would sad to hear that I learned about the term by reading a 2003 Nytimes column (albeit one from Bill Saphire).

If you're interested in further reading:
Godfather of the Kremlin by Paul Klebnikov. You'll understand why Russians supported Putin when he first came to power.
Kremlin Rising by Peter Baker if you want to see how Putin's Russia went off the rails.

Watch 'The Command' on Netflix to see the value that Putin's regime places on Russian lives.

wow - charley, great link!

where would be be NOW if the pandemic didn't occur? once past this corona stuff, and these projects get rolling....so exciting.

renaissance III?

its occurred to me i havent been through bakery square on foot or bike in years...i know so much has happened since then. you cant really take it in and see it for what it is from within your car.

i did see from the 16th street bridge MORE houses i hadn't notice before, right "behind" the terminal bldg. (between it and the river, but very close to the terminal bldg.).

Thanks for providing this link - lots of good information in here. It was good to read that LiveNation is still planning a concert venue as part of the Lower Hill development.

I agree, the latest design for Vision on 15th is sharp.

I expect that anything related to event space, hotels, restaurants, etc is going to snap back very quickly in terms of demand post-COVID. People will have lots of vacation time rolled over and disposable income saved up and want to make up for lost time.

Residential is still staying relatively strong in terms of apartment rentals even through the pandemic. Urban for-sale units are a bit weaker now, but still doing okay in most markets outside of NYC.

It may be a long time until the office market recovers though, since I expect some shift to work from home will be permanent.

It looks like the Troiani Group hit a snag on their planned downtown development today:
https://www.bizjournals.com/pittsbur...on-market.html

For those that aren't familiar with this topic:
https://troiani.com/troiani-group-of...st-side-tower/

There are skeptics that believe that the local Troiani family only wants to demolish the existing, historical, buildings to profit from parking lot revenues afterwards. I'm not sure what to believe, but I do hope a 385 foot tower is built here eventually. I really like the design.

Does anyone have any "inside" info on this one?

Count me as one who dislikes this developer. All the way back to daddy Troiani 30 years ago. The son places all these "BEWARE: THIS BUILDING WILL FALL DOWN AT ANY SECOND!!" signs all over the obvious structurally sound former Froggy's historic and very attractive building he wants to bulldoze. What a joke. Relatives in Carnegie said he wanted Carnegie to help pay for a new Papa J's building there and they told him to take a hike. He comes off as a little angry spoiled brat boy. Dislike his tactics and glad to hear this news.
