North Shore Connector said to be on schedule and under budget

Quote:
The project is alive and well and 83 percent complete, said Winston Simmonds, the authority's rail operations/engineering officer, during a walking tour of the 1.2-mile, $528.8 million extension of the Light Rail Transit system this week.
"Still on schedule and under budget," Mr. Simmonds said.

I guess the election commercials are partly to blame for all of the misinformation out there on the North Shore Connector. Sounds like it will be operational in 2012.

I would like to hear the urban myth that explains how the project is 83% complete with all the 'heavy lifting' done but still will not be ready for another year.

Testing , finishing the stations , testing takes up alot of the time. Like our New 1 mile long extension of our light Rail line , it was finished back in October and will open in January after testing. Your project involves a Tunnel so it will be a bit longer.

I wonder if it's been "re-baselined"? Anybody wanna bet?

If it's 'on-budget' then it's certainly been re-baselined. They dealt with a lot of cost increases due to the cost of materials unexpectedly rising.

Its still useless. Walk the. 25 mile.

What we really needed was a tunnel under the Mon. That would have solved all the budget problems

Lol

Lets dig more tunnels.

A horrendous waste of money. Imagine if that money had been spent to refurbish or rebuild some neighborhoods so that people moved back into the city which in turn would increase tax revenue so that maybe we can avoid bankruptcy.

Well, yea that it seems that bankruptcy is the only thing that would change anything. An increase in tax revenue would just mean the gumbahs on Grant Street could just give the unions blank checks like the old days.
