We don't see the Boeing 787 at KPHX too often, the Boeing 737, 757, and the Airbus A32x and other narrow-body aircraft are a common sight and that's due to increased range of such modern airliners.
While growing up in the 1970s, wide-bodied aircraft like the 747, the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 and the Lockheed L-1011, were seen operating out of Sky Harbor more often. We still see the Boeing 747 (British Airways), the Airbus A330 (Hawaiian Air), the Boeing 767 (Condor operating KPHX seasonal routes), and on occasions we might see foreign wide-bodied airliners on charter flights or flights that were diverted because of weather or other reasons. Overall, on day-to-day basis, KLAX has the advantage of seeing large aircraft operated by domestic and foreign carriers, including the A380.
Most wide-bodied aircraft that operate out of Sky Harbor are the variety of UPS and FedEx freighters.
