It's great if you are Mormon.

Mesa is the biggest suburb (population) in the Phx metro area....old semi-dangerous areas and new sparkling suburban areas.....lots of choices....used to have a rep as highly Mormon, but that has nearly disappeared with all the newcomers.....

any chance you can come out here and look around first?....hard to judge everything by zip codes only....you can go from a crack house to a $10M mansion in about three blocks out here sometimes.....

Tempe has a good middle-class decent rep...progressive city, very convenient to all the valley, lots of choices....I'd try to swing it there if you can.....

if you're working in Tempe, I don't think there's any reason to be anywhere near those three places you first offered up....look at Tempe, S Scottsdale, Chandler....lots of choices.....I'm not familiar with individual neighborhoods there, but know that all have OK to excellent reps as cities in general (S Scotts being the diciest).....may be some specific neighborhoods with less-than-stellar appearances

Mesa varies depending on where you are, but you might find something that would give you easy access to the light rail to get to Tempe. At your price, you really are going to need to have a roommate, though.

Apache Station :: Excellent Living

very snazzy website (cool music!) and right on the light rail.....appears to be surrounded by a canal, railroad, and freeway, according to google maps....convenient location...

but does it pass the $450 test??

I don't see that that complex has studios, and I don't see the prices on the site. I can't imagine you can get an apt there on your own for 450. The location is fine.
