What would be the first newer housing area north of the 26 hundred block of 24th St in Phoenix? This area is east of the Highway 51.

I checked out zip 85201 in N. Phoenix, and it is 11 miles from this area.

You may want to start over with your questions, unless I'm totally not understanding you.

Zip 85201 is in Mesa. The 2600 block of 24th street is nowhere near N. Phoenix. And, what would be your definition of "newer homes"?

There is no magic boundary line you cross where subdivisions automatically become newer. Due to the historic leapfrogging, checkerboard pattern of development in Phoenix, you might have a mile of 1990s era stucco and tile roof homes, followed by several miles of slump block ranch homes, followed by some more "newer" style homes, etc. I've seen old looking neighborhoods even north of the 101 by 19th Ave and Union Hills.

Like VP said, there's a lot of leapfrogging. You can pass by new infill developments located right next to mid-century neighborhoods. As for the 2600 block of N 24th St., that's somewhere just south of Thomas Road in a neighborhood known as Green Gables. Most houses in that area are quite old by Phoenix standards, although I think they have great potential for restoration.

The zip I used for north Phoenix is wrong, I had transposed some numbers.

My husband wants to apply for a job on 24th Street and I told him to wait until I can figure out how far he would have to travel each way from where we might live. We are not at all familiar with this area and I think it is not close to anyplace we would want to live.

I finally found a good map with zip codes, so now I can check out housing and see what is available that would not be too far away. I checked within 5 miles of the zip for the 24th St address and only found houses that were mainly 50 years old and older. We prefer houses that are no more than 10 years old.

I have lived here for 31 years. You are not going to find any new housing in the Biltmore area - which is 24/Camelback. You will need to go north to at least Shea and the 51 going west or east. You will not find 10 years old homes, but newer than 50 that have been remodeled. Otherwise for new homes in the 10 year range you need to go to Chandler, Gilbert, Tempe, Ahwatukee areas. The drive into the city from there is hell during rush hour - unless you can leave at 5:30 - 6 am. You would be going South and East to find these residential areas from 24St/Camelback area. And then again depending on how much $$ you want to spend on a home that will tell you exactly where you can live. Homes are pretty expensive here.

I would get a good relocation real estate agent to help you. In Phoenix most any place you live you get used to driving. I think now you can travel well over 100+ miles from 1 side of town to another. There are 4 million people here - and they seem to be all sharing the same roads!

Welcome -I am looking to move else where, but that all depends on one's opinion of quality of life and what they want.
