if money were no object what would you consider to be the absolute nicest course in the phoenix metro area?

There will be several articles that will have different opinons regarding what the "best" course is. However in terms of prestige and reputation, nothing beats TPC Scottsdale where the FBR open (Phoenix Open) is played. It's a PGA course. Again, this may not be the best course however if you are seeking the most famous and recognizable course from a national perspective, TPC is what you are seeking

I've always wanted to play Forest Highlands, but I've never had the chance.

My favorite course in Phoenix is Troon North.

If money was no object though, I'd like to be a member at Desert Mountain and play all of the different courses there.

Estancia sounds interesting, probably the most exclusive club around. It's very hard to get on there, you have to play with one of their 325 members.

Troon North is also my favorite course. Absolutely love that course
