I am considering moving to Broadstone Desert Sky Apartments. They are located at 7850 W McDowell Road in Phoenix. The map shows them to be just south of Desert Sky Mall, but north of the 101 loop. I have looked online at apartment rating sites, but am only finding complaints that you could have at any complex. So here are my questions:

Does this complex appear to be in a safe neighborhood?
Would you move there if you had two small children?

Any other information or help would be appreciated if you don't think Broadstone Desert Sky is a good place to live. We are only going to sign a 6-month lease, which is why we are doing the apartments instead of a home.

My husband will be working in downtown Phoenix near St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center (by W Thomas Rd and N Central Ave). We'd like to live relatively close to his office until we find an area to buy a home in.

Thank you!

Nope, that's not a good area at all. Anything near Desert Sky or Maryvale will not be a safe area to live. Find something that is closer in (east of the I-17 for example). Anything right around St. Joe's hospital would be much safer (I lived nearby once).

Better apartments can be had that are much closer to downtown Phoenix. Unfortunately I can't post links right now but will be able to later.

How many bedrooms do you need and how much do you hope to spend a month on rent?

i would avoid that area as well - desert sky is not the place to be - you could go a little further west and look into any of the new complexes around the 101 corridor or go more central

i work near St. Joes and the complexes around the I-17 and that area don't look all that favorable

not sure what your budget is but if you go a little bit east of there complexes can be found that I've had coworkers live in without any issues

Thanks for all your help. We found a place in a neighborhood we feel really comfortable in and I'm glad we didn't go with the first choice.

I currently live in Cameron Apartments 55th ave & Indian school its a gated community. The place is kept clean its quiet and I have never had a major issues or seen much crime. But I know there are bad areas especially near Desert Sky anywhere near Thomas or McDowell .

I live at broadstone desert sky and over all i havent had any trouble living here and i have been here almost a year. I also have 2 children, and have never had problems with my oldest playin outside. The only problem i do have is that they do take there time on fixing things like the spa and now they are not going to heat the pool during the winter which i think is crap, for as much as I pay a month for a 3 bedroom I should have all working ammenties. I wouldnt suggest to move in here there are alot better places u can find to the area u want to live close to. Matter a fact there is a brand new apartment complex right across the street that i was looking into it is called barrossa park and they just got finished building them. but neighborhood wise i havent had any problems... its an okay place to live if u wanna fork out the money to live here.

i am currently a resident at broadstone desert sky. my experience with them has been horrible. i always pay the rent on time, friendly person.i recenmtly got a tattoo of my sons footprints on my forearm they are about 2" big. management found out about them and now they refuse to renew my lease even though i told them i wanted to move into a 2 bedroom that charged more.
