I am going to be moving to Arizona in mid-may. I am looking into cable vs. satellite out there, and I was wondering a couple of things.

1. Anyone live in Desert Club, and have Direct Tv? If so, how is the reception? (heard that the winds can blow a lot of dust, and of course, the monsoon season)

2. If you have Direct Tv, is there any other internet provider that bundles their internet with Direct TV other than Qwest out there?

I have already compared prices, and know that the Direct Tv route is cheaper per month for what I want, but I also know that the HD receiver that I will need is gonna cost me a 2-year contract.

Only reason I'm really looking into Direct Tv is because of NFL Sunday Ticket, as I am an NFL fan who would like to see my hometown Lions play on Sundays. Then again, if anyone knows of a place that is open at 10am when most east coast games start...maybe I'll just skip the satellite route.

Thanks all...

John

You can find the Lions games at a bar. Most sports bars in the valley have Sunday ticket and show multiple games.

I would suggest going with Cox. You don't have to sign a contract, there is no equipment to buy, you don't have to pay extra for cable on multiple TV's if you don't want digital.

The best reason for Cox is on-demand. If you know anything about on-demand you will know why. On-demand is the biggest reason I am staying with Cox. Also, Cox is adding more HD channels as we speak, they just added 15 over the past month. DirectTv claims to have over 80 HD channels but most only should SD programing 90% of the time.

Sunday Ticket pays for itself. I used to go to pubs to watch my home-town team play every Sunday. It's more comfortable to watch all of the games in HD, every Sunday, from the comfort of your own home. Get some steaks and a 12 pack from the local supermarket with Sunday Ticket and pay less than going to bars to watch the games. Plus, the Redzone channel and player tracker for fantasy football are awesome. We've been doing that since we moved to AZ from out hometown back east and have been really satisfied. Plus, if you're stuck away from home (I was the on call manager some Sundays), you can watch the games on your laptop or smartphone/tablet with the free Sunday Ticket app. It's a no-brainer. Love my DirecTV!
