Does Philadelphia have Community Boards the way NYC does? In NY they make presentations, interact w the Precinct, all the city agencies, etc. One thing I noticed when I lived in Phila was how disconnected ppl were from each other, in addition to the above comments pointing out the economic problems are bigger than what suit is in office, if I was down there and had the influence I'd try to strengthen community somehow and demonstrate that ppl have a stake in their n'hoods. It goes beyond anything a mayor or DA have the ability to do.

No.

What we do have are Registered Community Organizations (RCOs).

These do not have the formal role New York's Community Boards have wrt the city government, but the better-organized ones — usually neighborhood civic associations like the Fishtown Neighbors Association or the Washington Square West Civic Association (founded in 1935, I think it's the oldest of these groups, far predating the ordinance that gave RCOs a key role in zoning and planning matters) — do maintain ties with their local police districts.

But not all neighborhoods in this city have good, well-organized RCOs (my part of Germantown doesn't, for instance). And in several neighborhoods, political party ward committees serve as RCOs.

Well, Philly made the national news wires again for another horrendous crime: the shooting death of a 7-month pregnant women just after her baby shower. Multiple gunshots to the head and stomach. Someone wanted her and the unborn baby dead.

The recent ''rape on a train'' case followed by this disturbing story is not helping the city's image.

Philly now facing 2 consecutive years of homicides way beyond anything seen since the '90s and will have 1,000+ homicides in 2 years.

How do you bring this down to even 2019 levels?

Philly is currently 14% higher than this date last year? How has the wave stopped increasing?

The difference today in increases or slow down is due to comparing, say, 1/20-6/20 with 1/21-6/21, the former time frame being before homicides really exploded. So any ''wave'' or slow down is the result of the new norm taking root in the summer 2020 comparing the 1st half of 2021 with the 1st half of 2020 and the 2nd half of 2020 with the 2nd half of 2021.

So, in November 2022, we may be boasting that homicides are only up or down a few %s...yet we're at a whole new level of figures to compare. So, yes, the rate is more comparable to the new elevated 2020 levels but the 2020 total was 40% higher than 2019 and 2021 is on track to be 55% higher than 2019.

Philly has a real challenge to get homicide levels to even the 2019 total (356) and can forgetta 'bout a 2013 level of 246 annual homicides for a long time.

Instead of being ''progressive'', the homicides in Philly are ''regressive''...magically, all other crime is ''down'' though...lol.
The inept and way out of her league Police Commissioner we have is trying to take credit for reducing the homicide rate based on the 40%+ increase earlier this year to today's 14%+ increase compared to 2020....see the bold quote above.

Not sure if Outlaw is lying or the fact that she's just plain old dumb not to see the differences in total numbers from 2020 and 2021 and the % adjustment comparisons.

Kenney blaming the state legislature and the commonwealth's gun laws.

Any of them thinking to adopt the Nutter-Ramsey tactics that saw a reduction of homicide totals, nothing in the league of today though, to 246 total murders in 2013 from a then high of 391 in 2007 or so?

Krasner, of course, pulled one of this ''choked-up/can't get through this'' when discussing the 7-month pregnant woman targeted and killed by multiple gunshots, including in the stomach. Yet, like Outlaw, he takes credit for crime reduction based on lies....lol.

The homicide and violent crime increase and the fake decrease in ''other crime'' really started escalating when the Kenney-Krasner era began.

Philly catching a break so far given that there are no real high-end retailers in the city like Louis Vuitton or Nordstrom given what's been going on in the blue-progressive areas like San Francisco, LA, and Chicago. Chicago's been putting up with this nonsense all year on the Mag Mile.

It's called ''consumer reparations'' and has spread into suburban area high-end malls and retail districts.

The paltry selections of high-end retail in Philly like Apple have PPD officers as security. Otherwise, large scale ''consumer reparations'' incidents would really only be worthwhile out at KoP Mall. Suburban malls in the Chicago and Bay Area are under attack and if Chicago's suburban Oak Brook Mall got hit, KoP Mall has taken notice. The Walnut Creek mall in suburban SF has blocked street access into its retail area.

However, these cities/areas are also seeing small retailers and places like Walgreens being hit so Philly itself is not immune to seeing the same thing.

This sums up Philly 2021 generally and entering the 2021 holiday season in particular:

https://youtu.be/d6BIB7WIjko

Philly's 500th homicide this year to date.

Must say those 2 random pedestrians in the video and anyone else in the vicinity are lucky to have not been injured or killed given this psychopath shooter pumped off 5 shots, 3 of which struck the 55-year old woman he killed...that's 2 strays flying loose.

Elsewhere, another teen shot in north philly and another in a vehicle hit with 40 shots at 11th/Kater (south philly) injured, one critical on Thanksgiving Day.

Heads-up...that WaWa in the 1900 block of Market had yet another armed robbery...that's at least the 3rd I know of in the past 2 months or so...retail labor shortage...lol.

The old 1990 record was supposed to be due to the ''crack wars''; what's the reason for a new record 31 years later?

The 19th Market is as out in the open as the other CC WaWa locations and is not as much of a generally very busy area as it used to be, especially after hours. This location has been getting hit at night into the early a.m. hours.

The bus stop at 20/Market was always full of dudes partying etc...couple times ending in loud arguments and fights...eventually there was gunshots...no surprise there.

These 24 hour CC WaWa stores are a magnet for trouble at night; just think if the WaWa at Broad/Walnut had stayed open; that place was trouble from week one of its short-lived existence.

Well, it's official, a new homicide record in Philadelphia: 501 as of this evening.

That's 501 homicides and counting until 12/31.

A new and very disturbing era in the City of Philadelphia.

At least the Frank Rizzo mural and statue are gone...oh, as well as the statue of that hardcore racist Kate Smith...white liberals...lol.
