Here's why Miami and Phoenix are about to surpass Philly's population

We're still growing, but it's slowing down. Just shy of 3k new residents for the city.

Not entirely sure we're slowing down. Apparently they have been overestimating US growth for the past few years in general... so this was a bit of a correction year. We're likely still growing at the same rate we have been, but just slightly slower than they predicted the past few years.

I have a feeling Philadelphia, and the region, are being underestimated significantly. Philadelphia (city) added about 13,000 jobs last year, yet only grew by 2,800 people? The entire metro area gained 67,000 jobs last year, yet only grew by 8,200 people? Something isn't adding up.

It's important to keep in mind that these are just estimates...i.e. guesses at best. We won't know true population growth number until the 2020 census, but I am 100% confident Philadelphia is being under-estimated.

^^^+1 - Thanks ROW!

On another topic, I thought this was a cool article about the MFL's role in Philly's continued resurgence.

How the overworked, unstable El just might be saving Philadelphia

This will take YEARS as the article says but it's still interesting. Considering that the project directly across Columbus Blvd is nearing completion, it could be another link in transforming the area.

OT. I rode on the 2nd Ave subway from 96th St Station to Canal St last week. Q train express felt like it only took a max of 15-20 minutes....

Out of curiosity does anyone know the progress of the Norristown High Speed line extension to KOP or the subway's extension to the Navy Yard?

Neither project is anywhere near groundbreaking, but you're probably going to see the NHSL spur before you see the BSL Navy Yard extension. One, it's further along in the planning pipeline, with a preferred route selected. Two, it won't cost as much to build (per mile).
