Guilty as charged here also, cats and dogs get toys and treats. Already have the girls(dogs) and now need to get the kitty treats, and they all have there own stockings as well. Gotta love them fur babes!!
I have always bought my pets Chrsitmas gifts. With my dogs I buy doggie treats and toys and wrap them since they get such a kick out of opening them themselves.
JJ68 or anyone else -- would you mind sharing your homedae treat recipes?
I would be happy to. The three recipes below are the ones I have been making alot of lately. Had a cancer scare with Johnny recently (he is fine for now, seems like the vet made an error interpreting some tests) so that is why I have been heavy on the blueberries - you know, antioxidants. Anyway, they are so good, I eat them myself. My dogs go nuts about them, especially the biscotti treats. In fact, as I sat down to type this, all three of them came over to me and bombarded me with kisses and barks, climbing all over me, telling me that before I typed this, I had to give each of them a blueberry bannana biscotti.
Enjoy!!!

Blueberry Dog Treat
with Bananas and Oats
Ingredients:
1/4 cup blueberries
1 small banana
1/2 cup milk
2/3 cup rolled oats
1 1/4 cup rye flour
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 400° F
Peel and slice the banana.
Place the banana, blueberries and milk in a blender.
Blend until smooth.
Pour into a medium bowl.
Add rolled oats and rye flour.
Stir until thoroughly combined.
Drop rounded balls onto a greased cookie sheet (I used a 1" cookie dropper).
Bake for 16 minutes. They will be crispy and browned on the outside.
These treats will not last as long as other treats. I would recommend no more than two days in a dog treat jar (after that they start to get moldy), 1 week in the refrigerator and 2 months in the freezer.
I don't buy Christmas or birthday presents for my dog. I'll buy him a new set of tennis balls every so often, but I don't specifically buy him gifts for special occasions.
Last year (first year with the pups), I bought them clothes (coats) and toys. My sister also got THEM a christmas gift (pre-packaged stocking of toys) in lieu of getting ME a gift. They also got gifts from my ex's family.
This year, they got more stuff from the ex's family. I haven't bought them anything yet, frankly because they don't need anymore toys lol. But I may look into getting a good winter coat for them.
As usual, our dogs got a ton of stuff. They came home tonight from hubby's family with a garbage bag of toys.
