Pretty much daily my kids play with the iPad or my Android phone or watch YouTube videos for a bit on the laptop. Pluto.TV is a great free resource of kids entertainment and has a setting on the web where you can lock out the non-child focused content... at least I thought it was a great thing until my sister criticized me and told me that kids brains are damaged by screens. What do you think? Good? Bad? Fine in moderation (the last is my opinion)?

Well, it's true.

I think a lot depends on each parent's definition of "moderation."

I agree.

One parent may feel that "moderation" for their 5 year old is an hour a day and another may feel that four or five hours a day is "moderation".

I have had students that spent up to four or five hours a day on school days and up to ten to twelve hours a day on weekends in front of the TV or computer and the parents still felt that it was in "moderation" and not excessive.

We have kids 9 and 5 and we let them use IPads for fun games...some videos (Pokemon) and learning games. This is definitely a situation where each kid and each situation is very different. We monitor their use and know when they have had enough. But used correctly esp in the early years a great learning tool....our 5 yr olds love the on-line puzzles and videos about trucks and firemen.

The fact that you call it iPad "parenting" is off-putting. An iPad, used in moderation, can be entertaining, educational, distracting, harmful...many things.

It cannot be parenting.
