I took their kindles away this summer because they were fighting me over time limits and not doing their summer reading. Done. Gone. I hate arguing with my kids over tablets, kindles, xbox, computer time, etc.
Taking away something your kids like because you are too lazy to enforce the limits does not sound like good parenting. Kids need limits. By just taking away the tablet you are refusing to teach your kids that there are limits in life. All because you don't want to be bothered with enforcing those limits.
Certain kinds of electronic toys and even TV can shorten a child's attention span. Sesame Street actually did their own study on this and realized that they needed to change their formatting because of this problem. Schools are seeing this issue with children. If a child is exposed to TV or electronic toys that constantly change to keep their attention, that could be a problem.

I teach my kids limits on a daily basis. When I attempt to enforce time limits and they are argumentative about abiding by those limits, the kindle was taken away. That in my opinion is teaching limits and is actually the less "lazy" approach. Please! Allowing kids to sit around on electronics for extended periods of time is lazy parenting in my opinion. We go on hikes, work in our garden, go to the library, go swimming, do chores and housework, participate in sports....the list goes on and on. So being "lazy" actually does not apply to me or the way we raise our kids. I think a lot of parents look for ways to justify allowing their kids to be on electronics for long periods of time.
Yeah, almost as dumb as a parent bragging their child is better off because they go on hikes and do household chores...
Well, I guess only time will tell!
