I like it, too, and I know two men named Omar--one is from the Dominican Republic, and the other is from Puerto Rico.

The comment was uncalled for. I used to inprocess soldiers and I cannot imagine that anyone would ever make a comment about a name not fitting the person's race and that she was referring to a child with the child right there. You have an obligation to help protect others from the ignorance of this woman so turn her in and spare someone else. Seriously, people always wonder how children can be so cruel, what do think this woman's kids will be like. Imagine this at school, a student or teacher telling a child that their name doesn't match their race!

Oh, for G*d's sake! Talk about an over-reaction!

We have no idea what words were actually said, for starts. The "nurse", and I put this in quotes b/c she may actually be a Medical Assistant, is guilty of stereotyping, but to go on about her and now her kids like that is absurd!

Are you serious? Whether a nurse, a medical assistant or a person sweeping the floor said it, it was inappropriate and you can bet the kids if the person has it say the same thing at school. Would not surprise me if the town is small enough and the ignorant person was a parent that they didn't go home and replay the scene for the kids asking if they knew her. Being adult doesn't mean what it used to as I see more kids that are mature than many adults. And, by the way, at least I did not go on about her and her kids in front of them but if they are reading this, that would make my day! Ignorance breeds ignorance.

Inappropriate, yes. But maybe we should be concerned about what this woman is doing on the job, and not get into her parenting, etc.

You don't have much faith in the sanctity of confidentiality if you think the bold.

What a high horse you're on, just be careful you don't fall off.

Just fyi, the staff at your doctor talks about you. It may be nice things like how sweet you were or it may be that you smelled terrible and they had to febreeze the room after you left or it might be that you have a very unfortunate name.

She should have known better than to say it like that, but is it really an insult? Because being offended that someone thought you would be black seems as racist as the initial assumption.
