It gets very hot here too, so shorts or skorts and a tank top is standard summer wear, but it does not need to look like Bunny Ranch attire.

In the heat of the summer I prefer to wear long skirts made of a lightweight material. It's much cooler than shorter things in my experience because they sun isn't beating down on your skin. I wear short sleeved shirts with them because long sleeves don't have the same effect as a long skirt does. I used to live where it was routinely above 105 during the summer and had absolutely no problem at all in that type of attire.

Yeah....I don't see that working with a busy small person. But, you never know. My DD prefers board or cargo shorts luckily.

I do that myself. Plus I have a lot of long MuuMuus. I'm trying to single handedly bring the Islands to AZ. (So far it's not working, lol.)

I used to wear long skirts as a very active child. Lots of kids do. It may take some time getting used to it, but you can do everything in a skirt that can be done in shorts.

Good for you. She loves dresses and skirts, and wears them all the time. They are not discreet for play, unless you wear shorts underneath, which she does. Still hot though. We spend most of the summer at the pool luckily. One other thing worth mentioning, if an 8 year-old wore a long skirt every day through the summer around here, I think sadly, they would be picked on a bit.

FR and Zimbo - it's TC night! Looks like it will be just me around here. DS is still in FL, DH has some client meetings/entertaining that will keep him out until 9 or 10.....All that popcorn talk last night has me considering popcorn for dinner. How indulgent is that? I went to the library yesterday and was looking through the DVDs for something good....didn't see what I was looking for but I did see and check out a copy of Anne of Green Gables - which I love but hadn't seen in years. Watched it last night...I also found a couple of books. Since it's just me tonight, I may sit and read for a bit, eat some popcorn (with butter) and wait for Top Chef....

I don't like skorts. The extra fabric is hotter than just wearing shorts or skirts.

I couldn't watch this season Hopes as we canceled our T.V. right before the season started. I read what happened, though.
