It's an age old issue, and it doesn't end in the teen years. I was embarrassed by my parents, especially my mom who grew up in a different state and had a very different accent. My kids were embarrassed by us. One time, my daughter couldn't find anyone to go to a HS football game with, b/c many of her friends were in activities such as cheer and marching band that required their participation at the games. B/C my husband loves football, I said, "Dad can go with you". She looked horrified. I said, "He'll wear a bag over his head". They went, and she did find some friends there, and ditched her dad.
