actually, there are more self absorbed people. statistics show hat 20% of any group are self enhancers. as the population increases, the amount of people in that 20% increases with it.
I ask because I like to people watch while I visit downtown and I notice many people are either extremly rude to eachother or it seems as if they have no regard for anyone else other than themsleves. What are your thoughts?
I've noticed that too. People are more rude and self-centered these days than they used to be years ago. Most don't like helping each other anymore. This is just not only in society, but in schools too. It seems like teachers don't like/want to help their students with anything these days. Some I've seen like to fight with the student, if the student misbehaves. And some teachers are having sexual relations with students....It's a crazier world now. It's like you can't trust anyone anymore.
I've noticed it also especially in the last 10 years or so.
Some think they are the only ones that matter on the planet or if they have a bad day it's ok to take it out on others...Wrong. I would just love to slap these people...lol
Perhaps with all of today's conveniences, and technology making our lives easier, people can afford to be more self-absorbed? It's like they actually have the time to be, or something?
Do you think I look better with my hair parted on the side or straight back?....lol

I comb my hair straight back.. and I'm talking about the ONE and ONLY hair that's left on my head!
As far as people being more self-absorbed than they were 10 years ago, I don't think so, at least not here in Phoenix. People are going to be themselves, no matter what technology offers or what year it is. You're always going to have the friendly ones, and you'll always have those who are self-absorbed.
Ron,,, in big cities people tend to be more rude because they don’t know everyone. If you were visiting in a small town you’d see people who knew each other be respectful. Small towns have that advantage where people just don’t want to be rude to their neighbors also in small towns people talk. The last thing you want is for your neighbor to start a rumor around town about how you were disrespectful to them for one reason or another.
In the larger towns, you surely see people who became friends with the man at the newspaper stand, or the waitress who gives him coffee each day, or the doorman who flags a cab for them. I think it’s just knowing people and small towns everyone knows everyone.
Crime is yet another problem, people don’t want to get close to others that they don’t trust.
You're in the city,of course people are going to be that way.
Other than that well it is the 'me' generation
I think another part of it may be after Y2K & 9/11 things started to decline.
