First initial, middle initial, last name, pretty easy. I think it's quite rare that people use their real name on message boards. I wonder if you were required to use your real name, and it was somehow verified, if less people would post on message boards.

Actually, you should have a nick that is NOT related to you (name, address, work etc.). That's a recommendation, but I would prefer that way.

Some think everything I do is a little backward at times. I picked my user name because it reminded me of my home state, it wasn’t going to get me into any trouble, and ……………………………….. I couldn’t think of anything else to enter at the time.

Some of the usernames I see I figure the person was in a particular place coming here for a particular thing when they signed up and then you get stuck with it. God knows what my username would be if I had signed up to talk about a current situation in my life right now!
