Today's Question(s): Did your home(s) have air conditioning when you were growing up?
No need for A/C in my homeland.
If not, how did you survive?
It's not hot enough to have one, and my house was near beach, so there was a constant sea breeze in Summer. Perfect weather!
Do you have air conditioning now and, if so, what temperature do you like to set it on?
Oh, yeah! I live now pretty close to hell.
75F in Summer, and up to 82F while I am at work; 72F in Winter (heater), 60F while I am at work.
How else do you keep cool:
-Open a window? Only few months a year. The cooler season just ended. Back to A/C
-Use a fan? No. I get a head and earache from fans.

Just for fun: If you ever called in sick when you weren't, what's something you did instead? Yep, it happened when I didn't feel like going to work. But I went there later on and stayed later. I might not always want to get up in the morning, but I am not a slacker. My work doesn't require set hours.

a period in history marked by the absence of major wars
Origin: from Latin for "peace"
It was a very long time ago. Nowadays we live in perpetual war.
The Pax Romana, from 28 B.C. when Augustus formed the Principate until the death of Septimius Severus in 211 A.D.
That’s 239 years of external and internal peace and security in all western Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, except for two brief civil wars (69 and 192–195 A.D.).
Of the past 3,400 years, humans have been entirely at peace for 268 of them, or just 8% of recorded history.

Today's Question(s): Did your home(s) have air conditioning when you were growing up? No, but during my early childhood when we lived in Southern California, we had one of those swamp coolers that was installed in a bedroom window. If not, how did you survive? The summer temperatures aren't that extreme in Northern California, so I never missed having one.
Do you have air conditioning now and, if so, what temperature do you like to set it on? No need for it here. The Pacific Ocean is a natural air conditioner.
How else do you keep cool:
-Open a window? Sometimes.
-Use a fan? We don't have one.
-Awnings on your house, its windows or over a deck or patio? We don't have awnings, either. -Other? On the rare days when it's very warm, we might take the duvet off and substitute a lightweight cotton blanket. Bonus: Something breakable: Hearts
Something lucky: A winning lottery ticket.
Something that made you dizzy: Getting up from a chair too quickly
Foodie Q: Last food or drink you mixed or blended? I blended some dressing into salad greens.
Just for fun: If you ever called in sick when you weren't, what's something you did instead? That didn't happen very often because I've always been one of those super-honest types. But once I took a day off just after I'd moved into my first apartment. I wanted to stay home and enjoy my new living space. Another time I took a Friday off in order to drive from New York to Florida for a long weekend with my boyfriend. I hated that job and quit shortly afterward, so I didn't care whether they believed I was sick or not. But mostly I never called in sick unless I really needed to. For every time I called in sick, there were three or four times that I came to work when I really should have stayed home.
Today's Question(s): Did your home(s) have air conditioning when you were growing up? Nope. We sweltered in the summer heat.
If not, how did you survive? We just hung in there and hoped for cooler weather. My sis and I had upstairs bedrooms (attic bedrooms with slanted ceilings) and it was extremely hot up there in the summertime. Dad put a big fan in one of the windows, facing out, to pull air through the rooms so there was at least a bit of air circulation. We'd just lie in bed, wet with sweat, and hope morning would come quickly so we could go downstairs where it was a little cooler.
Do you have air conditioning now and, if so, what temperature do you like to set it on? Yes, I have A/C now. I'm pretty frugal when it comes to utilities, so when the weather gets hot I turn the A/C on but keep it around 80, or 78 if I'm feeling indulgent. If I have company over, I'll turn it lower so they're comfortable.
How else do you keep cool: -Open a window? Yep. -Use a fan? Yep. -Awnings on your house, its windows or over a deck or patio? Nope. My house had awnings on it when I first bought it in 1990, but when I had the outside renovated in 1998 the awnings were removed. I wish I'd kept them. -Other?
Bonus: Something breakable: Teacups.
Something lucky: Me.
Something that made you dizzy: I'm dizzy all the time, from an inner disease I've had since 1989. (Meniere's Disease) The dizziness is well controlled most of the time with a mild medication. I'm fortunate that it's not worse and it does not curtail my activities.
Foodie Q: Last food or drink you mixed or blended? Yesterday I mixed a packet of diet Swiss Miss cocoa with coffee for a homemade mocha latte. (Why pay 4 or 5 bucks for a fancy coffee drink at Starbucks when I can pay about 30 cents and make just as good a drink at home or at my office? )
Just for fun: If you ever called in sick when you weren't, what's something you did instead? I've never done that. I could not live with myself if I lied like that. It's just wrong.

Did your home(s) have air conditioning when you were growing up? I did not grow up with a/c. The closest thing was the 4/55 a/c in our car. Well actually with my dad driving it was more like 4/45 a/c in the car. When we moved to Alaska there was no need for a/c.
