Usually it's sentimental, then you know what goes around comes back around in clothing fads. Spouse and I have stuff dating back 20+ years and in good condition, so we dress for ourselves not for others.
Here are some taken yesterday evening at a festival- a history festival- set deep in the heart of the countryside on the Wiltshire/Dorset border.
Frankly I do not know a more gorgeous area. The villages are absolutely wonderful and the undulating scenery is practically untouched. It truly is superb, and I'm difficult to please.
Here are some shots from the festival ground;
And the reason I was there- a talk by a Cambridge University Professor;
You are one lucky fella, Jezer, to live in such a beautiful place. I love that antique steam engine!
I've got lots of clothing that I will never wear again, but I can't bear to part with. One example is my fringed alpaca poncho. I bought it in Greenwich Village in New York City during my hippie years. It was in pretty good condition for its age, but I made the mistake of leaving it at a friend's house. One of her many dogs and cats clawed holes in it. Maybe it can be repaired, but in the meantime it sits forlorn in the bottom of a drawer.
I also have a cocktail dress that I bought in 1980 that I'll never fit into again. Even if I could wear it now, the mauve color and ruffles wouldn't suit a woman of my age. But it was so expensive at the time (still the most expensive garment I have ever purchased for myself), and it has such memories attached to it, that I'll probably never be able to let go of it.
I think we are a sentimental bunch! LOL You know I am .... having that coat of mine since I was age 2.5 years old.
But, lately I have adopted the 6 month rule on clothing....if I haven't worn it in 6 months I donate to charity (Goodwill or Salvation Army in the USA). It sure helps to clean my closet, but you can't imagine how many times I have had pangs of regret!
Why do I keep that piece of clothing?That's a good question Jezer . My mother Alm gets furious how much close I have accumulated throughout the years. Many items are just collecting dust Well there could be always a chance I might wear it once a year or so
Let's hear about your closet stories because the POTD is;
Why do I keep that piece of clothing?
I'm guilty of keeping clothes much longer than I should. If I haven't worn something for a couple of years, I should probably get rid of it. Yet, I have boxes of clothes stored away that I haven't worn for quite some time. Same with shoes. I have shoes I haven't worn in years and know I'll never wear again. So why are they still in my house?

Why do I keep that piece of clothing?
Simply said, I'm guilty of this nefarious practice of keeping clothes that should be discarded.
