I like the self service checkouts unless I have beer or coupons. With those items you have to wait and call over the person in charge to enter the coupons into the sytem and verify your ID. If they have 5 or 6 people checking out at the same time it may be awhile before they come to your aid. In those cases I go through the regular line as it usually is faster.
I don't like self-service checkouts. Something always goes wrong whenever I've tried to use one, so I gave up on them. I also prefer to interact with a real, live human being who is employed. Every self-service checkout station to me represents a job that used to exist and doesn't any more. It may be good for the company's stockholders, but it's a short-sighted philosophy. If people don't have jobs, who is going to buy the company's products?
I don't use them. I have tried in the past and it actually takes longer than the good old way. I think it might be OK if you just have one or two small items, but that's it.
Only time I remember using one was when my son gave me a hard time about waiting in line when there were all of these open self-service checkouts. Might be more receptive if they knocked a small percentage off the bill, but though it's a moot point because we do things the old fashioned way here - it's called a checker and bag boy (or girl)
Depends. If I'm in a hurry and there are lines, yes. If I'm not or there aren't, no. You can't flirt with the pretty young lady at the checkout in a self service line.
