Good morning peevers.

Wet and very windy is the forecast for parts of the UK today.

I think the very high winds are set for the North and thankfully Miss J is safely home.

Today's peeve follows on from yesterday's in that it relates to stores, or in this case the lack of them.

This downward turn in the World economy is hitting pretty much everyone and just to look locally there have been a few shops that have closed in the last couple of years. One or two had been around for many decades.

A general supply store and an electrical retailer are the latest victims close to home.

Nationally three major chains have gone under in the last month!

How about where you are? Hopefully we'll find out because the POTD is;

Stores shutting.

Here's some more shots from yesterday's jaunt. Given the weather here I'm not heading out today!

Notice on side of the cricket clubhouse;

Oh well- that's me banned!

I don't care about the new big box stores that pop up and soon after close, unable to keep customers with quality goods or service, but it always made me sad to see a smaller store that was open a long time, sometimes for generations, with an excellent service and great products get closed because some cheap Chinese made crap will get a better advertising, lower prices and lowlifes attention.

Great pictures, Stud ... I mean Jezer!

I miss stores that sell CDs and DVDs the most. It's not the same ordering on line. I used to love browsing through those places.

I also miss bookstores. More and more of them are going under because of digital downloads. There's nothing like spending the afternoon perusing the shelves of a good bookstore and inhaling the sweet aroma of fresh, new ink and paper.

I miss record stores and book stores and my favorite coffee shop closed, nowhere to sit and chat with people, sad really.

First of all, thanks for the pics, you always have very interesting ones...love the horses.
Stores shutting, absolutely, namely the little ma and pa places that have been around forever and deserve the business that the 'bigger' multi million dollar corporations are all getting. Small town folks just trying to make a living till the giants step in. Even the customer service sucks in the big ones.

Nice pics, as always! The second is my favorite with Molly as the highlight.

Stores shutting

Since I'm new to my neighborhood, I'm not aware of which stores may have closed. But I have seen notice that several Sweet Bay super markets are being shut down. The chains closing stores is a loss of jobs but it's even sadder when it's an independent store pushed out of business because a chain store like Walmart moved in.

Mom and Pop stores just can't compete when the price of gas goes up, thus delivery costs go up and costs of all products have risen so much lately. I like to go to these places but alas they are getting to be fewer.

It is sad when so many long time family businesses close. A while back I was online reading the news in CO and saw that the family owned dairy where we used to buy milk just closed after decades in business
