If it wasn't for the war in Iraq, I would encourage my son to go into the military service. I think it's an excellent way for a young man to mature,

I agree, Colleen. My son and his drill instructor worked out his problems with authority, ability to follow instructions, etc. He was always much more mature after that.

I chuckled with the image of your son and his drill instructor "working out his problems with authority" ha!

Especially if the DI was one who "shaves with a blowtorch".

I'll have to dig some of mine up. I no longer have my Basic Training photo. But I do have a couple of me while in the Army.

Lets see some of them old military pics out there. I think we could all use a good laugh . I had to coax bjb123 to let me post mine, but she didn't want to take them away from the rat holes. She uses them to keep the rodents out of the house by putting my pictures infront of the holes .

No, but I wish it was. Back in the day, I tried to get into every major branch except the Coast Guard (no disrespect intended to the Coast Guard, and I would try them too if I had it to do over again). To make a long story short, I was always turned down for medically-related reasons. It's something I can live with, because I tried more than once instead of just thinking about it.
