ADULTS, (see that word?) Adults should be making those choices of whats right and what wrong went it has to do with the vehicle that they buy. The government didn't buy them for the drivers. Now if the speed limit says 55mph and they're doing 75 or whatever, then yes bust them. But they (the government) need to quit the Micro-managing.

They're doing it for the safety of the people. What if your kid (who I'm assuming was taken away because you smacked him or her around like a rag doll, the way you speak of social services) didn't heed your warning to wear a seatbelt? What if he was ejected through the windshield and you had to attend his or her funeral tomorrow? Yeah, it would be his fault... and it sucks that the government has to tell people to do it... But when it comes down to it, it's a human life. Get over it. The intentions are not to control you, but to keep you and yours from death and serious harm. I'm sure that it's far more cost effective to enforce seatbelt laws than it would be to treat all of the injuries caused if fewer people wore them, especially with today's joke of a healthcare system.

The parents try to punish their kids and the government tries telling the how much and how little is right. When I screwed up as a child, my parents would lay it on my backside and the government didn't stick their noses in then. But now all a kid has to do is make a call and the parents get into trouble for trying to set the little bratt on the right path. Then the fools take the kid out of a home that's trying keep them on the right path and put them into a home that bend to their every whim and the government want the bio-parents to pay for it all. Screw that, "You took them, you pay for them".
I'm guessing this has some kind of significance for you personally... There's a difference between punishment (spanking included) and beating. Mental abuse is also considered in cases like this.

There is such a thing as too much because physical abuse leads to long-term problems. I can point you in the direction of a few murderers and rapists whose mental instabilities came from too much punishment.

But what do these have to do with Ohio?

You think they don't take your kid away if you hit them too hard in Texas? You think that in Arizona, Georgia, wherever, they don't enforce seatbelt laws?

I don't have kids, so I don't care. If the parents aren't smart enough to figure out what those belt are in the car for, then it's not my problem. They made that choice, not me.

I screwed up a lot when I was a kid and my parents laid it on me when I screwed up. I'm glad that they did (Now) maybe not them, but now that I look back, yes I see the reason for it.
Spare the rod, spoil the child.

So because you don't have kids, the millions of other children in America are worthless? What a selfish twit you are.

One day when you have normal human emotions like love and trust... Only then will you understand why laws that protect the people are created.

Earthbound, I agree with you, it's a stupid law. But in fairness, Ohio is far from the only state that has put into place this type of "nanny" legislation.

Your right Clevelander17,
That's like the state has just a small handful of counties going through the E-check and not the whole state. figure that one out.

Let's just put it this way...

There is a VERY strong correlation with "nanny" laws and high standards of living, human development, human rights, and quality of life.

Norway vs. Somalia.

Japan vs. Paraguay.

Canada vs. The USA.

5 out of the 7 days this week were brilliantly sunny. Today is was sunny and 45 degrees...in the middle of February.

Some posters have been pointing out the idiocy behind that statement, along with similar statements that overstate, exaggerate, and/or generalize. I'm not exactly sure why you cannot or refuse to grasp the fallacy behind statements of those types.
That's because she is both a miserable, ignorant person who is also (most of all) quite the IQ cellar dweller.
